Technical Service Laboratory Supervisor

This position is primarily responsible for performing and supporting activities in relation to chemical and physical testing required for technical service. These duties are relevant to maintaining and developing future products to grow the market. The position requires self-motivation and a team approach. This role is responsible for the day-to-day activities in the Laboratory including all R&D testing, R&D Projects, lab work and customer sample submissions.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions
1. Supervises all research and development projects to be executed by the R&D Chemist
2. Assist in the design of technical projects, participate when required in project discussions and facilitate/execute tasks related to projects assigned to the technical department
3. Prepare and maintain all Research and Development records. Maintain TSR, sample and development records.
4. Perform all R&D projects initiated by the Marketing and Technical Manager. Prepare and submit data in a format to be presented to customers.
5. Coordinates the testing and analysis and recommends approval status of new raw material sources and submits data in format to support approval status
6. Supervise the day-to-day operations and personnel of the on-site laboratory. Confer with technicians to conduct analyses, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests.
7. Assist in the design, development and monitoring of the Standard Operating Procedures for the organization.
8. Maintain all processing/technical service laboratory equipment including monitoring of calibration status.
9. Assist in the maintenance of the ISO9001 Quality Management System and conduct internal audits.
10. Coordinate the completion of all customer sample requests.
11. Responsible for adequate housekeeping of the processing, mixing and sample prep laboratories, assisting with routine safety inspections including maintaining a safe working environment according to the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Organize laboratory supplies/chemicals stock inventory.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science degree (Chemistry or related field) OR 5 years of experience in lieu of degree
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in a laboratory environment
- Familiarity with the ISO9001 Quality Management System
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, problem solving, and decision making
- Proven skills in information technology to include Microsoft Office and Minitab
