SUMMARY
The Technical Procurement Engineer is a full-time position integral to the successful execution of engineering projects and manufacturing processes. This role involves the strategic management of acquiring materials, equipment, and services necessary to meet project specifications, schedule, quality, and operational requirements. The engineer must possess a deep understanding of technical specifications and industry standards to effectively evaluate and select suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality components.
Key Responsibilities
· Supplier Sourcing & Evaluation: Identifying, assessing, and qualifying potential suppliers based on key criteria such as cost, quality, reliability, and compliance. This may include site visits, interviews, and financial due diligence.
· Contract Negotiation: Leading negotiations to secure favorable contractual terms, including pricing, delivery timelines, and payment structures, to align with financial goals and risk management strategies.
· Inventory Management: Monitoring inventory levels to maintain optimal stock, reduce waste, and ensure alignment with production and demand cycles, in collaboration with logistics, finance and operation’s needs.
· Purchase Order Management: Preparing, reviewing, and processing purchase orders with a focus on policy compliance, accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with budgetary controls.
· Compliance & Governance: Ensuring adherence to internal policies, procurement procedures, and regulatory requirements to mitigate risk and support audit readiness.
· Supplier Performance Monitoring: Tracking supplier KPIs, delivery performance, and resolving discrepancies to maintain supply chain continuity and service quality.
· Market Intelligence: Up to date on industry developments, emerging technologies, and product innovations to support strategic sourcing decisions.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering with finance, engineering, maintenance, sales, and other departments to ensure alignment of procurement activities with broader business objectives.
· Sales and Quoting Support: Assist Sales and Engineering Departments new project estimating activities by advising on supplier selection, historical costs, component lead-time, and RFQ’s.
Key Competencies
Technical:
· Ability to read Metric/ISO and American/ASME engineering drawings, GD&T, units, and specs
· Working knowledge of machining processes, materials (tool steels, polymers, etc.), coating and heat treatment processes
· Familiarity with tolerances and quality requirements specific to tool and die work
Systems:
· Proficiency in ERP/MRP and procurement platforms for PO creation, inventory tracking and forecasting.
· Strong understanding of data formats, conversion tools, and technical support processes.
Procurement and Commercial:
· Strong negotiation and contract management capabilities
· Analytical acumen for evaluating pricing, cost structures, and supplier financials
· Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills
· Organizational proficiency to manage multiple procurement activities all to completion.
· RFQ and PO management, lead-time tracking, and expediting
· Solid knowledge of procurement principles and supply chain dynamics
International Commercial:
· Knowledge of import/export compliance basics (tariffs, customer documentation, country-of- rules) and currency risk awareness
· Knowledge of international business terminology, contract and Incoterms fluency (EXW, FCA, DDP, etc.)
· Comfortable working across time zones, , and business norms.
Soft Skills:
· Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in all tasks.
· Self-directed problem solving. Excellent analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
· Effective and strong communication skills for collaboration with customers and internal teams.
· Relationship management with domestic and international suppliers

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in technical field – Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Business with a technical concentration.
Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree: technical/trade certification (machining, tool & die, CAD) plus 5+ years of relevant shop floor or procurement experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
Basic knowledge of company handbook and policies
Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
