Technical Director - Operational Readiness

Reporting to the Operations Manager - QLD; The Technical Director - Operational Readiness will be responsible for the implementation of respective processes, controls and resources to win and deliver work in line with expected safety, quality and value for clients and SYSTRA Scott Lister. The Technical Director will provide subject expertise and specialist domain knowledge relevant to digital train control systems. The role will provide expert input relating to the introduction of systems such as ETCS to existing suburban rail networks. The role: Work as the discipline lead, providing technical leadership advice to clients and internal stakeholders across a range of complex rail digital systems projects. Interface with clients, setting & managing expectations to maintain satisfactory levels of performance and delivery. Support business changes to Rail Operator’s operating & maintenance processes/systems as a result of introducing ETCS, ATO, CBTC and/or TMS technologies. Identify and update operations systems, processes & standards, procedures, rules & activies impacted by transitioning to digital train control systems. Ensure benefits are maximised through development process, performing change impact assessments, risk analysis & treatment. Provide operations functions inputs/requirements to the concept of operations and ensure cross functional safety, operations & maintenance requirements, considerations are addressed. Integrate the changes to safety, operating maintenance and business models, processes & systems. Resolve any conflicts within the project and to the satisfaction of the client and business. Required qualifications & experience: Bachelor level qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience. 15+ years’ experience in rail operations, maintenance & safety including experience of supporting rail infrastructure operating organisations' transition to digital train control systems. Primary capability in railways signalling & control systems with desirable experience in systems engineering integration. Able to demonstrate sound leadership skills, critical thinking & problem-solving skills, conflict resolution with the ability to present in a professional manner with a high level of credibility.
