Job Description

We are looking for a seasoned Systems Integration Engineer for a long term contract outside IR35 to take a lead role in a high-impact sonar system upgrade.

This isn't just a "process" role; you will be the technical glue on the right-hand side of the V-Model, driving the integration of complex sensors, signal processing firmware, and bespoke software for the UK’s maritime defense sector.

As a key link between the design team and the customer, you will ensure that cutting-edge naval technology transitions from the lab to successful field acceptance.

The Role

  • Drive Integration: Lead the system and sub-system integration phases, ensuring hardware and software work in perfect harmony.
  • Test & Qualify: Execute hands-on testing and qualification, working closely with external test houses to meet MoD and European standards (CE/UKCA).
  • Problem Solve: Act as the primary technical point of contact for fault finding and defect resolution across firmware and electronics.
  • Document Excellence: Produce high-quality test specifications, procedures, and V&V reports that satisfy stringent customer requirements.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Bridge the gap between engineering teams, Project Managers, and MoD stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery.

What You’ll Need

  • Defense Pedigree: Proven experience in system test and integration within a defense or aerospace environment.
  • Technical Depth: A strong appreciation of electronics and software/firmware design—you know how to debug complex systems, not just report on them.
  • V-Model Mastery: Deep understanding of the systems lifecycle, specifically verification, validation, and customer acceptance.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Experience with equipment test standards and product qualification testing.
  • Security: Current UK SC Clearance is mandatory. Due to the nature of the projects, Sole UK Nationality is highly .

Security & Eligibility

  • UK dual nationality acceptable providing one nationality is UK
  • SC Cleared
  • Background working within a MOD / Defence environment
  • Role subject to security and export control restrictions

Working Arrangements

  • Fully on-site role (South East England)
  • Either:
  • 5 days per week (37.5 hours)
  • Compressed 5 days across 4 days (longer on-site hours)

Contract Details

  • Outside IR35

Why Join?

You’ll be joining a technically focused defence engineering environment with a flat structure, real ownership, and exposure across the full product lifecycle. This role offers meaningful work on critical programmes, variety across projects, and the chance to make a tangible impact without excessive bureaucracy.
