Work Location

 

This role is based in our Livonia, Michigan office. Travel may be needed to client sites and/or training events. Mileage reimbursement and travel per diem will be provided as appropriate. Reliable transportation is required. level positions require 100% office attendance.

We’re looking for candidates seeking a career in the Tech field seeking roles from help desk to engineering to project based roles. This role is a 6 to 12 month position. During the , the candidate(s) will train and support different areas of business including help desk and engineering. Upon successful completion of , candidate(s) will be promoted to either help desk, engineering, and/or special projects.

 

During the , candidates will need to pass industry certifications to move on to the next phases of our program and potential long term career path. Smart Ass Nerds will reimburse for the certifications we may require. Candidates will be required to get one or more of the following certifications: 3CX, Cisco, Microsoft, A+, and/or Net+. Once candidate is hired into a regular position, other certification paths may be offered. Exact certifications will be determined based on applicants’ interest and career goals.

 

Applicants don’t have to be currently working in the Tech field; however, applicants must have held some sort of job, volunteer, or educational role within the past 6 months. If candidates have not held some sort of job in the past 6 months they will not be considered for this role. If you are currently enrolled in high school or college, candidates must have a 3.2 GPA

 

 

Base Responsibilities

 

· This position provides remote and in-person interactions with customers as for IT support and consulting. Remote interactions are through phone, text, and chat using remote management tools and other conference solutions. In person support provides one-on-one assistance with end-users needing assistance or training

· Perform remote and/or in person assistance for end user help, maintenance on server, desktop, network, VoIP Systems, printers, camera, and access control systems.

· Troubleshooting issues for the systems we support for our end users and internal systems.

· Field deployment of hardware and/or software as needed at client and special project sites.

· Professional communication and follow-up with all users for issues assigned to them.

· This role will require installation of equipment/systems from time to time. Applicants should be able to lift to fifty pounds without assistance.

· Troubleshooting end user issues by researching and using self-knowledge to fix customer issues. You must be comfortable working alone in a self-directed capacity, utilizing internal and external resources, and properly documenting work being completed in our ticketing system.

· Create and update support documentation as needed.

· Lab mockups for testing systems before client deployments

 

 

Shift Information

 

We are hiring for first hour shifts along with weekend coverage. We operate normal business hours; however, after-hours and weekend work may be needed based on our client’s needs. This role is a part time position as an . Initial hours for this role will be 8 to 24 hours a week.

· Have finished high school/GED or a Senior in High School with 3.3 GPA or higher. Juniors in high school might be considered if they enrolled in online courses or a co-op class is available at your higher school.

 

 

A successful candidate would have the following:

 

· Working towards an Industry certification in information technology, or related field, and/or 0 to 2 years of tech support experience or a desire to learn and support modern technologies

· Previous IT experience, particularly in a managed services environment, however we will train for the right candidate if you have the right technology and professional and ability to learn and retain new systems information.

· Proficient knowledge of PC hardware and software including Microsoft Office

· Knowledge of standardized networking technologies, equipment, and cabling (CAT6/7, TCP/IP, rack, switches, wireless connectivity 802.11 AC/6/6E/7, DNS, DHCP, Fiberoptic cabling etc.)

 

 

A bonus if you have:

 

· Experience, maintaining and troubleshooting a Microsoft Active Directory or Azure Active Directory

· Knowledge of Office/Microsoft 365

· Knowledge of virtualization (Hyper-V, VM-Ware, Open Source)

· Experience supporting Macs, Linux, Abode products printer support, camera systems, access control systems, point of sale, and VoIP systems.

· Experience with Cisco, Juniper, and/or Arista Networks

· Experience configuring a variety of smart phones and tablets.

· MDM and Intune Experience

· Experience dealing with technology challenged end users.

· Knowledge of HIPPA and/or support within the medical industry

· Experience managing hosting/application servers for end users. i.e., web hosting and VPS.

· Experience working for a managed service provider (MSP)

· VoIP and fiber optic support experience

· Structured cabling experience

 

 

This position requires background/credit check. Security Clearance might be required and will be sponsored. US Citizenship is Required as this role will deal with government customers.
