Position Overview
Bay Systems Consulting Inc. is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer III to support NOAA in managing and securing its critical information systems infrastructure. This position will focus on the implementation, operation, and maintenance of advanced software systems and cybersecurity tools to ensure the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of NOAA’s networks and data assets. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge, proactive problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach to working within cross-functional engineering and cybersecurity teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and implement complex software systems to support NOAA’s mission-critical operations.
- Analyze system specifications and develop software solutions that enhance and support the operating environment.
- Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve operational software and system problems.
- Develop and maintain core system-level routines, including those that support multiprogramming, telecommunications, and file management.
- Modify, test, and debug software components and utilities to ensure reliable integration with NOAA’s operating systems.
- Package and engineer software releases that align with operational and security standards.
- Contribute to the development of cybersecurity measures and ensure compliance with federal information security standards.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior software systems engineers as needed.
- Prepare technical documentation, user guides, and reports related to system performance and updates.
- Work closely with NOAA stakeholders to understand operational requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 5–7 years of professional experience in systems engineering, software development, or related fields.
- Proven experience with developing or modifying complex software programs in support of operating systems.
- Strong proficiency in software debugging, systems integration, and release engineering.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and familiarity with government security compliance standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear technical documentation.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative technical team.
- Security Clearance: Must possess and maintain an active U.S. government security clearance
