Systems Commissioning Engineer\n\nLocation: Field-based with visits to various sites\nVehicle: Company vehicle provided\nOvertime: Available and sometimes required\nSalary: £45,000 - £55,000\n\nAre you a meticulous, technically skilled commissioning engineer who takes pride in getting life-safety systems working flawlessly? If you’re driven by accuracy, professionalism and a commitment to life-safety compliance, this could be the perfect opportunity.\n\nWe are looking for an experienced Systems Commissioning Engineer to join our Projects Delivery Team.
You’ll be at the forefront of commissioning fire detection and life-safety systems across a wide range of client sites, ensuring every system is configured, tested and handed over to the highest standards.\n\nWhat You’ll Be Doing\n\nCommissioning & System Setup\n\nCommission fire alarm and associated life-safety systems in line with specifications, regulations and British Standards including BS 5839, BS 8629 and BS 5266.\n\nConduct functional and integration tests across fire alarm, evacuation alert, emergency lighting, disabled refuge and related systems.\n\nCarry out panel setup, device addressing, system configuration and software/firmware updates using manufacturer-specific tools.\n\nCause & Effect Logic\n\n * Develop and implement detailed cause-and-effect programming.\n\n * Verify sequences using simulations, live scenarios and systematic testing—ensuring every input and output behaves exactly as intended.\n\nTechnical Verification & Troubleshooting\n\nValidate wiring, device placement and system configuration against design drawings and specifications.\n\nDiagnose faults and collaborate with installation teams to resolve technical issues efficiently.\n\nWitness Testing & Handover\n\nLead witness testing with clients, consultants and stakeholders, resolving queries in real time.\n\nProduce accurate commissioning reports, test certificates, cause-and-effect matrices and full compliance documentation.\n\nProvide clear demonstrations and end-user training during the handover phase.\n\nCompliance & Client Interaction\n\nEnsure all work is completed safely and in accordance with legislation, best practice and company procedures.\n\nOffer technical support, advice and strong communication throughout commissioning and acceptance stages.\n\nPlanned & Reactive Maintenance\n\n * Support the Service Delivery Team with periodic servicing and urgent callouts where needed.\n\n * Diagnose and rectify faults across fire alarm, emergency lighting and nurse-call systems.\n\nRequirements\n\nWhat You’ll Bring\n\n * Strong knowledge of relevant British Standards, especially BS 5839.\n\n * Experience with addressable, conventional and wireless fire alarm systems, including networked solutions.\n\n * Skilled in system programming, cause-and-effect development, loop testing, verification and commissioning.\n\n * A disciplined, methodical approach—nothing overlooked, nothing assumed.\n\n * Excellent problem-solving ability and confidence in diagnosing panel, device and communication faults.\n\n * Clear communication skills, able to explain technical matters to non-technical users.\n\n * Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, layout drawings and technical documentation.\n\n * Team-focused mindset, always professional, always leading by example.\n\n * Electrical installation experience and relevant training are advantageous.\n\nBenefits\n\n * Competitive salary aligned with your responsibilities.\n\n * Excellent overtime rates and paid door-to-door travel.\n\n * Company vehicle, laptop, PDA, tools, PPE and uniform provided.\n\n * Manufacturer, in-house and H&S training opportunities.\n\n * Your birthday off as an additional day’s holiday.\n\n * The chance to make a real difference—your ideas and improvements are welcomed.\n\n * Work variety: no two days are the same, with clients across multiple sectors.\n\n * Long-term stability with a well-established organisation.\n\n * A supportive environment where you’re more than just a number.\n\nIf you’re passionate about commissioning excellence, enjoy solving complex technical challenges and want to play a vital role in delivering safe, compliant and fully verified life-safety systems, we’d love to hear from you
