The Systems Engineer (SE) will join the Project Delivery Team, reporting to the Manager of Project Delivery. The SE oversees Project Design (Electrical Design Package, Communication, and minor Software), Commissioning, and Technical Support for AC and DC electrical systems in utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Candidates should possess a solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, project management, construction principles, and experience designing high-power electrical systems. The role involves collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to ensure project success and compliance with specifications and standards.
Minimum Skills Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Power Engineering, or equivalent experience
At least 3 years of experience with renewable energy and distribution or transmission-level Energy Storage Systems
Job Responsibilities:
Coordinate with teams to prepare technical materials for projects
Establish and maintain engineering, design criteria, standards, and specifications for ESS projects
Interface with vendors to understand product specifications and functions
Specify system components, calculate ratings, and create detailed bills of materials
Review electrical plans and provide organized feedback promptly
Review technical specifications to ensure project requirements are met
Conduct site visits and field inspections to identify engineering risks
Provide Tier 2 technical support to stakeholders
Travel domestically and internationally (approx. 10-15%), residing near a major airport
Additional Requirements:
Familiarity with lithium-ion batteries
Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NEC, IBC, IEC, UL, NFPA, etc.)
Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical issues
Experience with CAD drawings
Experience with utility-scale energy storage and renewable projects (inverters, batteries, PV, wind, flywheels, etc.)
Understanding of electrical equipment such as inverters, transformers, batteries, circuit breakers, and power supplies
Ability to explain electrical principles and read electrical diagrams
Proficiency with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power quality analysis tools
Experience configuring and troubleshooting PLCs and industrial electronic equipment
Knowledge of industrial control methods and SCADA systems
For in CA/CO/WA, the salary range is $120,000-$150,000. Compensation may include additional incentives and benefits, including health coverage, 401(k), PTO, holidays, and potential bonuses.
