Sustainability Lead – Edgware Salary: £55,000 - £75,000 Package Company: Leading Main Contractor A leading main contractor delivering complex construction projects across the UK is seeking a Sustainability Lead to join their growing environmental and ESG function. This is a key role for a forward-thinking professional passionate about driving sustainability performance and embedding best practice across major construction schemes. Role Overview: The Sustainability Lead will act as the main point of contact for assigned projects, providing technical expertise, ensuring environmental compliance, and supporting the delivery of sustainability certification and company ESG objectives. The role involves collaboration with internal teams, clients, and the supply chain to achieve high standards of sustainable construction. Key Responsibilities: Project Compliance Serve as the sustainability subject matter expert for allocated projects, providing guidance and technical advice to project teams. Deliver and contribute to internal environmental sustainability training sessions. Report monthly to project teams on environmental and sustainability performance and progress. Support project teams in meeting environmental, social, and sustainability-related planning conditions and KPI targets. Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure compliance and promote best practice. Prepare and communicate environmental and sustainability documentation such as Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) and Pollution Incident Response Plans. Building & Project Certification Support project teams in understanding and achieving certification requirements such as BREEAM and LEED . Engage with the supply chain to ensure all certification evidence and documentation are collected in a timely manner. Maintain compliance and certification trackers to provide a robust, auditable trail of information. Act as the main contact for clients and consultants on sustainability certification progress and requirements. Lead and manage the certification process in line with industry standards and project timelines. Identify and escalate any risks that could impact certification achievement. Promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across the business to enhance BREEAM delivery efficiency. Sustainability Strategy Support the Head of ESG in implementing the company’s sustainability strategy and monitoring performance. Integrate sustainability objectives into daily operations, driving engagement and continuous improvement. Assist in the development and enhancement of the company’s environmental management systems and ESG documentation. Experience & Requirements: Proven experience in a sustainability or environmental role within the construction industry. Strong technical understanding of sustainability frameworks such as BREEAM , LEED , or equivalent. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to lead sustainability initiatives across multiple projects. Relevant degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or related discipline.
