The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for leading field survey operations, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to project specifications. This role involves supervising survey crews, operating survey instruments, and coordinating with project managers and engineers to deliver high-quality survey results.

We are seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our team.  This position is 40 hours per week in our Minden or Reno offices. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Lead and manage field survey crews on various projects including boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
  •  Operate and maintain survey equipment such as total stations, GPS units, data collectors, and levels.
  •  Interpret and execute survey plans and instructions from project managers and engineers.
  •  Ensure accurate and complete data collection and documentation.
  •  Perform field calculations and verify measurements for accuracy.
  •  Maintain detailed field notes and records.
  •  Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and team members.
  •  Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
  •  Train and mentor junior crew members.


Requirements

  •  High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in surveying, civil engineering, or related field , but not required.
  •  Minimum of 3–5 years of field survey experience.
  •  Proficiency with survey instruments and software (e.g., Trimble, Leica, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
  •  Strong understanding of surveying principles, methods, and legal requirements.
  •  Ability to read and interpret construction plans and maps.
  •  Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  •  Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in various conditions and lift equipment.

Skills:

  •  Experience with drone surveying and LiDAR technology.
  •  Familiarity with GIS systems.
  •  Certifications such as CST (Certified Survey Technician) or LSIT (Land Surveyor in Training).
