Survey Crew Chief — Build Infrastructure That Lasts
At Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc., we build life-changing infrastructure — and we’re looking for a skilled Survey Crew Chief to lead our survey operations with precision, accountability, and excellence.

What You’ll Do

Leadership & Oversight

• Lead daily operations of the survey crew, reporting directly to the Survey Manager.

• Supervise instrument and rod personnel, ensuring accurate and efficient work.

• Manage survey equipment, materials, and resource allocation.

• Coordinate with foremen and superintendents to support field operations and project schedules.

Technical Excellence

• Perform and oversee all technical components of survey work, including computations, layout, finish grading, as-builts, and utilities.

• Interpret construction plans, drawings, and elevations accurately.

• Maintain cost awareness and manage assigned project resources effectively.

Planning & Scheduling

• Develop and maintain accurate short-term schedules — always stay at least one week ahead.

• Minimize crew downtime by planning alternate work activities in advance.

• Communicate frequently and clearly with the Survey Manager and field leadership.

What You Bring

Technical Knowledge

• Advanced understanding of construction principles and procedures.

• Proven ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Competent Person and Confined Space training .

• Proficiency with basic math and survey-related calculations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, squat, and lift up to 80 lbs.

• Comfortable working in and out of trenches and in all weather conditions.

• Must have reliable transportation to and from jobsites.
