The Surgical Instrument Repair Technician works primarily at customer sites, hospitals, and clinics, to provide cost-effective maintenance on company and customer owned medical equipment to assure it is functioning properly and meets the customer’s needs. The Surgical Instrument Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of medical devices and equipment to ensure their optimal performance and compliance with safety standards. This role is crucial to supporting healthcare providers in delivering safe and effective patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Complete operational verification, preventive maintenance, corrective repair service and all associated documentation and customer communication.
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on medical devices and equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and company protocols.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues and malfunctions in medical devices promptly and accurately.
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance and calibration of medical equipment to ensure precision and reliability in measurements and outputs including but not limited to: cleaning, lubricating or adjusting instruments .
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts inventory. Document service reports and communicate findings with the appropriate personnel.
- Ensure all repaired and maintained equipment meets safety standards and regulatory requirements. Follow protocols for decontamination and infection control when handling medical devices.
- Coordinate proposal maintenance program developments using company methods and models.
- Provide technical support and guidance to healthcare staff on the proper use and care of medical devices.
- Order and maintain inventory of spare parts and tools necessary for repairs and maintenance.
- Stay updated with industry advancements and participate in training sessions to enhance technical skills and knowledge of new equipment and technologies.
- Facilitate equipment pick-up, delivery, quotation communication, repair status monitoring and delivery of completed repairs
- Work with leadership to coordinate periodic performance reviews done quarterly
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED, certification in medical device repair is a plus.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in medical device repair and maintenance, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Work is performed in a healthcare environment with potential exposure to biohazards and other medical conditions.
- Strong understanding of electronic and mechanical systems. Proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with healthcare professionals and team members.
- High level of precision and accuracy in performing repairs and documentation.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment as necessary.
- Valid Driver’s License.
