Procurement Manager / Supply Chain Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Procurement Manager to lead purchasing and supplier management activities within a complex aerospace and defense manufacturing environment. This role will oversee a team of procurement professionals and take ownership of the full procurement lifecycle, ensuring the timely availability of critical materials to support production requirements and on-time customer delivery.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in aerospace and defense procurement, particularly within a contract manufacturing or high-mix manufacturing environment (Aerospace Required). This leader will manage the procurement of highly complex bills of material containing hundreds or thousands of electronic components while partnering closely with Engineering, Operations, Planning, Quality, and site leadership to address supply challenges and improve overall supply chain performance.
In addition to managing day-to-day procurement execution, this position will play a key role in developing the purchasing team, strengthening supplier performance, improving material availability, and driving continuous improvement across procurement and materials processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of procurement and purchasing professionals, providing direction, coaching, performance management, and professional development.
- Own end-to-end procurement activities, from sourcing and purchasing through supplier management and material availability.
- Ensure the timely acquisition of electronic components and other production materials to meet manufacturing schedules and customer commitments.
- Manage purchasing activities supporting complex, high-mix bills of material with a significant number of unique electronic components.
- Monitor supplier performance, delivery commitments, material constraints, and potential supply disruptions; proactively develop solutions to mitigate risk.
- Oversee the flow of materials through key operational stages, including receiving, inventory management, stockroom activities, and material movement supporting production and shipping.
- Partner with Engineering, Production, Operations, Planning, Quality, and site leadership to resolve procurement and supply chain issues.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to identify material shortages, supplier constraints, and other obstacles that could impact production schedules.
- Establish and improve procurement processes, systems, and best practices to enhance efficiency, visibility, and material availability.
- Develop strong supplier relationships while maintaining focus on quality, delivery, cost, and overall supplier performance.
- Analyze procurement and supplier performance metrics and implement corrective actions and process improvements as needed.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence within the procurement organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (, not required) in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, or a related field .
- 4+ years of experience leading or managing a procurement or purchasing team, with a demonstrated history of successfully developing and managing direct reports.
- Strong professional background in aerospace and defense manufacturing, with hands-on experience in procurement, purchasing, or strategic sourcing.
- Demonstrated experience sourcing and procuring electronic components in a complex manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing procurement activities within a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing operation strongly .
- Proven ability to lead procurement execution in an environment where material availability and supplier performance directly impact production and customer delivery.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Planning, Quality, and manufacturing leadership.
- Strong understanding of supplier management, purchasing processes, inventory flow, and materials operations.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
