Supervisor - Transportation & Public Works
The Supervisor - Transportation & Public Works directly supervises and oversees the work of crews performing streets and public works maintenance and repair.
Essential Functions
Supervises, oversees, monitors, and provides direction for labor crews working to maintain and repair streets and other public works infrastructure in the City; assigns, monitors, and reviews workers equipment, facilities, materials, and tools based on short-term priorities; provides technical direction and daily operational decisions.
Adheres to work priorities and ensures appropriate delegation of work tasks and orders; monitors and manages project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by upper level management.
Inspects, evaluates, and reviews work completed by crews and employees for quality and safety standards; provides training to new employees or crew leaders and ensures all permits are pulled and materials and equipment used professionally.
Ensures production goals are met in a timely manner and works to increase productivity; checks and monitors for cleanliness of tools and equipment; directs, supervises, and oversees the clean-up activities around the work site to leave premises clean and safe.
Assists and supports the hiring process for employees and maintenance workers; attends and participates in job fairs and being on interview panels for new workers; evaluates staff and enforces disciplinary measures for field employees.
Provides quality customer service by communicating effectively with customers and responding to issues or concerns timely and professionally.
Performs any and all other work as required or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of equipment, tools, and methods used in various construction repairs.
Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, building, roofing, painting, masonry, glazing, floor coverings, sprinkler systems, machinery, equipment, HVAC equipment and refrigeration principles.
Knowledge of cashiering and collecting practices, procedures, and techniques.
Ability to read various schematic diagrams and blueprints.
Supervising staff and making work delegations and assignments.
Inspecting work and determining quality and general standards.
Leading, directing, and monitoring crews performing labor.
Knowledge of standard colors, configuration, and placement of lane markings and traffic signs.
Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures.
Ability to read, write, and develop reports.
Establishing and maintaining strong relationships.
Understanding traffic laws and streets maintenance activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: Four (4) years of experience in the operation/maintenance/repair of street, roadway, bridge and/or storm drainage structures (e.g., levees, creeks, and channels). And: One (1) year of lead work or supervisory responsibilities.
Equivalency: An associate degree or higher in an engineering or construction management field plus two (2) years of the required experience, including one (1) year of the stated lead work/supervisory responsibilities, will meet the education and experience requirements.
Licenses: Valid Texas class A or B commercial driver's License (CDL) with good driving record (or equivalent license from another state). Candidates with an out-of-state driver's license must obtain a Texas class A or B CDL within probationary period.
Salary Range: $27.45 - $32.58. The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
