Position Overview
The Superintendent – Construction & Installation is the primary field leader for active construction and equipment installation projects. The Superintendent directs field personnel, installation crews, subcontractors, site logistics, safety, quality, and daily work planning while coordinating closely with the Assistant Project Managers on schedule, scope, customer requirements, and project risks. This position is ideal for an experienced field leader who understands construction, equipment installation, subcontractor coordination, and jobsite operations and wants to help build Big Stuff’s growing construction and installation organization.
What You'll Do
Field Leadership
- Lead day-to-day field execution of construction and waste handling equipment installation projects
- Direct installation crews, field personnel, and subcontractors
- Develop daily and weekly work plans and coordinate manpower, tools, equipment, and materials
- Identify and resolve field issues before they impact schedule, cost, quality, or customer satisfaction
Site & Installation Coordination
- Serve as Big Stuff’s primary field representative during active construction and installation projects
- Verify site readiness and coordinate access, staging, and installation prerequisites
- Coordinate equipment delivery, unloading, staging, rigging, placement, installation, testing, commissioning, and startup
- Coordinate concrete, structural, electrical, mechanical, fabrication, welding, and related subcontracted work
Project Management Partnership
- Provide regular updates on progress, manpower, schedule, site conditions, materials, subcontractor performance, and emerging risks
- Identify changed conditions, delays, additional work, and potential change orders promptly
- Provide accurate daily reports, photographs, and field documentation supporting project administration and closeout
Safety & Quality
- Lead jobsite safety and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, customer standards, and project-specific safety plans
- Maintain installation quality in accordance with drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and company standards
- Identify deficiencies early and drive punch-list completion and corrective action
Schedule & Productivity
- Take ownership of field milestones and installation sequencing
- Monitor crew and subcontractor productivity and adjust resources as needed
- Manage field activities with cost awareness to reduce rework, overtime, remobilization, and avoidable expenses
Team & Customer Leadership
- Set clear expectations for safety, workmanship, productivity, professionalism, and customer interaction
- Mentor installers, foremen, and developing field leaders
- Build strong working relationships with customers, general contractors, and facility managers
- Foster teamwork between Project Management, Sales, Service, Operations, and field personnel
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of field leadership experience in construction, industrial installation, mechanical contracting, material handling, waste and recycling equipment, or a related industry
- Experience supervising construction crews, installation personnel, subcontractors, and vendors
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, equipment layouts, specifications, and installation documents
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and construction safety practices
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout the Mid-Atlantic region
- Valid driver’s license
Qualifications
- Experience with waste and recycling equipment, material handling systems, or industrial equipment installations
- OSHA 30 certification
