Position Summary
We are seeking highly skilled and detail-oriented Structured Cabling Infrastructure Assessors to perform comprehensive evaluations of telecommunications rooms, structured cabling systems, and related infrastructure across various owned and leased facilities. This role is integral to the planning and execution of a large-scale re-wiring initiative and will directly inform future infrastructure design and implementation strategies.

The ideal candidate will conduct structured cabling audits, accurately document site conditions, and prepare detailed floor plans, rack elevation diagrams, technical reports, and photographic documentation. This field-based, hands-on position requires demonstrated expertise in structured cabling systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct structured cabling assessments at approximately 233 facilities
  • Survey and document all Telecommunications Rooms (TRs), including Main Distribution Frames (MDFs) and Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs)
  • Assess and record the following:
    • Horizontal and backbone cabling (fiber optic and copper)
    • Pathway types (e.g., cable tray, conduit, J-hooks)
    • Ceiling conditions (drop, hard lid, open/exposed)
    • Presence and condition of firestopping at cable penetrations
    • Electrical service and HVAC provisions within TRs
    • Grounding and bonding systems following TIA-607-D
  • Identify and record workspace layouts, including private offices, cubicles, and open areas
  • Develop comprehensive CAD drawings reflecting:
    • TR and equipment room locations
    • Backbone cabling routes
    • Telecom outlet quantities per floor, including exact drop locations
    • Cubicle and office layouts (as-built)
  • Generate rack elevation diagrams and a complete written site audit report
  • Capture and organize labeled photographic documentation of all relevant infrastructure
  • Coordinate on-site access and scheduling with Task Managers and department representatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience in structured cabling, low-voltage systems, or telecommunications infrastructure
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other CAD software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
  • Ability to understand and contribute to technical drawings and infrastructure layouts
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to multiple sites
  • Must successfully pass a background check and comply with all security protocols

Qualifications

  • BICSI Certification (at least one of the following):
    • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
    • Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM)
    • BICSI Technician (TECH)
  • Previous experience working in government, public safety, or large-scale enterprise environments
  • Knowledge of current TIA/EIA, NEC, and BICSI industry standards and codes
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting structured cabling assessments or infrastructure audits
  • Possession of OSHA 10 or 30 certification
