Structural Steel QC Inspector

Responsibilities:
Quality Control Inspections & Documentation:
· Have extensive knowledge of AISC standards
· Perform visual inspection of all aspects of fabrication during the production process
o Visually inspect raw materials for non-conformance per ASTM standards
o Visually inspect parts that are fabricated prior to assembly
o Visually inspect assemblies
§ Inspect layout and fit up weld, including dimensions, layout, camber, hole locations and gauges, pitch, and piece marks
§ Inspect completed steel members for proper welds and cuts and grinding and shop bolting
§ Inspect painted steel members for proper coverage and mil thickness and that masking is properly completed
§ Perform skidmore inspection on shop bolts per AISC procedure
· Scan members as “good to go” in the P2 system after satisfactory final check
· Maintain records of QC Inspection Reports
· Generate and maintain records of Non-Conformances and Corrective Actions.
· Be aware of and responsible for any drawing revisions. Revoke superseded drawings from the shop floor and replace with revisions.
· Undergo an eye exam every 2 years
Equipment Maintenance
· Maintain and regularly inspect all equipment and document in the appropriate binder
· Tag any equipment that is not functioning properly and obtain (2) two quotes for repair.
· Regularly spot check that welder gasses match WPS and feed dials are within parameters
· Regularly spot check welding consumables, coatings, and bolts to verify proper storage, identification, labeling, and accompanying Certificates of Conformance.
· Ensure that paint is labeled with batch # and expiration date.
· Perform monthly measuring device checks against the master
· Schedule annual crane inspections and calibrations for welders and measuring and testing equipment.
Training
· Provide employee training on for proper procedure continuity
· Provide employee weld testing progressions and continuity confirmation
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Education:
· Have extensive knowledge of AISC standards
· Have knowledge of welding/fabricating structural steel
· Must be able to read prints and layout assemblies per print
· Read and comprehend construction drawings and specifications.
· Must have the ability to lift 20-50lbs.
· High School Diploma
