Structural Project Engineer – Building Structures
Melbourne, FL | Full-Time | Office-Based with Periodic Site Visits
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and licensed Structural Project Engineer to provide leadership across technical design, project management, and client-facing delivery. This position is ideal for a career-minded professional with 9+ years of experience managing structural engineering projects from start to finish. You’ll join a collaborative A/E team working on diverse and challenging projects with opportunities for advancement and leadership.
Basic Qualifications
9+ years of experience in structural engineering and project leadership
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or related field
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
Proficiency with structural analysis software and understanding of industry codes
Strong communication skills and experience in a multidisciplinary A/E environment
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Structural Engineering
LEED accreditation or other sustainability certifications
Experience with seismic, wind, or blast-resistant structural systems
Advanced certifications in structural software platforms
Knowledge of Florida construction practices and local building codes
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Develop detailed scopes, schedules, and proposals
Lead project teams, assign responsibilities, and track deliverables
Coordinate with architects, owners, and engineering disciplines
Maintain project timelines and ensure clear communication with stakeholders
Structural Design & Technical Leadership
Lead structural design efforts from concept through construction
Conduct quality reviews and ensure compliance with building codes and standards
Approve calculations, drawings, and specifications
Oversee RFI responses, submittals, and field-related questions
Financial Management
Monitor project budgets and profitability
Manage billing, revenue projections, and client communication
Track scope changes and secure appropriate compensation
Quality Assurance
Implement QA/QC protocols across all project deliverables
Supervise construction administration tasks, including site visits and documentation
Ensure projects follow proper closeout procedures
Team Leadership & Development
Mentor junior engineers and assign training opportunities
Participate in performance reviews and technical interviews
Promote a collaborative, growth-oriented team environment
Client Relations & Business Development
Build and maintain strong client relationships
Support marketing efforts and contribute to proposal preparation
Represent the firm in professional organizations and community engagement
