Job DescriptionJob Description
The Structural Inspector is responsible for inspecting structural components of construction projects to ensure compliance with approved drawings, engineering specifications, building codes, and safety standards. The role involves site inspections, documentation, and coordination with engineers, contractors, and authorities to ensure structural integrity and quality throughout all phases of construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections of foundations, concrete, steel, masonry, wood framing, and structural connections
- Verify construction work complies with structural drawings, specifications, and applicable building codes
- Inspect reinforcement placement, concrete pours, steel erection, welding, bolting, and anchorage systems
- Identify non-conformances, safety concerns, or deviations and report findings clearly
- Prepare detailed inspection reports with photographs and recommendations
- Coordinate with structural engineers, contractors, project managers, and inspectors
- Witness and document material testing (concrete, steel, soil, etc.) as required
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented and verified
- Maintain accurate inspection records and daily logs
- Support audits and regulatory inspections as needed
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in structural inspection or construction supervision
- Strong knowledge of building codes and standards (IBC, ACI, AISC, ASTM, or local codes)
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and specifications
- Familiarity with construction methods and materials
- Proficient in inspection reporting and documentation
