Remote Structural Engineer
Location: Indianapolism Fort Wayen, Cincinnati or any area within central and southern Indiana
(Local position with minimal travel up to 10–15% within Indiana and Cincinnati Metro)
Salary Range: $105,000–$125,000 (Based on experience and Indianapolis market rates)
Reporting To: Senior Engineering Leadership
Our client, a leader in structural preservation, is expanding its specialized engineering team in Indiana's major metropolitan area and needs a Senior Structural Engineer to inspect, diagnose, and repair complex parking structures and infrastructure throughout the Indianapolis region.
You will use cutting-edge inspection technology (including smart glasses for live technical guidance, GPR, and advanced imaging tools) to lead structural assessments primarily within the Indianapolis metro area, Fort Wayne, Cincinnati Metro and smaller markets within Indiana- supporting the region's active construction and development markets.
This role combines home office-based engineering work with regular field inspections throughout the area. You will focus on high-priority projects in Indiana and Cincinnati Metro, performing on-site inspections, diagnosing concrete and structural issues, and recommending long-term repair or preservation strategies for region-specific challenges such as freeze-thaw cycles, deicing salt corrosion, variable soil conditions, and snow loads.

What You'll Do
- Conduct structural inspections of parking garages, commercial buildings, and mixed-use developments throughout the Indianapolis metro area, focusing on concrete durability, foundation issues, and repair design
- Support Indiana's construction market with expert structural assessments
- Utilize state-of-the-art technologies and non-destructive testing methods (NDE) to conduct comprehensive structural assessments across Midwest markets
- Serve as a technical expert for high-priority Indiana-based accounts including corporate facilities, research and academic institutions, and major developments
- Address region-specific structural challenges including freeze-thaw, deicing salt corrosion, thermal cycling, and snow/wind load considerations
- Diagnose complex structural issues and develop engineering solutions compliant with the Indiana Building Code and applicable local amendments
- Work on both new construction assessments and aging infrastructure in established areas
- Create detailed engineering reports that account for Midwest climate and soil conditions
- Collect data via non-destructive testing methods (e.g., ground-penetrating radar, corrosion mapping, foundation analysis)
- Draft assessment reports and repair solutions, collaborating with local and regional design teams
- Support rapid-response assessments for storm or winter-damage events when needed
What You Need
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master’s )
- PE License/EIT about to get your PE (Indiana , or ability to obtain Indiana licensure quickly)
- 5–7+ years in structural engineering, ideally with a focus on concrete/materials and field assessments
- Understanding of the Indiana Building Code, IBC references, and local municipal requirements
- Experience with field assessments, inspections, or forensic engineering
- Knowledge of Midwest climate challenges (freeze-thaw cycles, deicing salt impacts, seasonal thermal expansion)
- Understanding of regional soil conditions and foundation design considerations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse client presentations
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong team collaboration
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with high-rise construction in urban Midwest markets or industrial/manufacturing facility assessments
- Background in parking structures, retrofit design, or construction oversight in Midwest markets
- Knowledge of snow- and wind-resilient design and related load requirements
- Experience with corporate facilities or large institutional assessments
- Familiarity with rapid development and fast-track construction projects
- Leadership experience with proven ability to manage teams and drive results
