Position Overview

\n

We are seeking an experienced, licensed Structural Engineer to lead the structural design of residential wood-frame structures (and masonry/CMU structures for our Florida markets). In this role, you will perform complex structural calculations, produce repair details and official engineering letters, and coordinate directly with truss manufacturers, architectural staff, purchasing, and operations teams. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in residential construction codes, works with minimal supervision, and holds an active Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to seal and stamp structural plans.

Key Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Structural Design & Calculations: Perform comprehensive engineering calculations for gravity, lateral (wind/seismic), and foundation systems for single-family residential wood and masonry/CMU homes.
  • \n

  • Plan Sealing & Documentation: Seal and stamp structural construction drawings, framing details, repair letters, and field modification sketches in compliance with applicable state regulations.
  • \n

  • Component Coordination: Review and coordinate structural plans with prefabricated roof and floor truss layouts to ensure load-path continuity.
  • \n

  • Field Inspections & Liaison: Conduct site visits, perform structural assessments, and meet with local building officials and inspectors to resolve permitting and construction-related issues.
  • \n

  • Code Compliance: Conduct ongoing building code research (IBC, IRC, FBC) to ensure all designs comply with the latest local and state structural guidelines.
  • \n

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with internal architectural designers, purchasing, Toll Integrated Systems (TIS), and field operations to streamline construction efficiency and resolve constructability challenges.

Qualifications & Requirements

\n

Essential:

\n

    \n
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • \n

  • Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (State of Florida PE license strongly , or eligibility for comity/reciprocity).
  • \n

  • Experience: Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on structural engineering experience focused on residential construction.
  • \n

  • Technical Knowledge: Advanced expertise in light-frame wood design, structural concrete, and Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) design methods.
  • \n

  • Codes & Standards: Strong proficiency in International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), Florida Building Code (FBC), and ASCE 7 load provisions.
  • \n

  • Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to drive projects, make sound engineering judgments, and produce deliverables with minimal to no supervision.
  • \n

  • Mobility: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for occasional job site visits and municipality meetings.
  • \n
