We are a design-focused, architect-led practice based in Swindon, working on a wide range of domestic and small residential projects — including bespoke extensions, loft conversions, refurbishments, and one-off new homes.
Our approach values creativity, collaboration, and buildable design solutions. We’re looking for a Structural Engineer who shares our commitment to quality design and enjoys working closely with architects and clients to bring ideas to life.
We're based at The Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon, but you can work regularly if not predominantly from anywhere in the South-West, be that Bristol, Bath, Oxford, Reading - anywhere within a reasonable and infrequent commute.
About the Role
You’ll play a key role in the development of the practice, providing structural input from concept through to completion. The position suits someone with a solid foundation in building structures who enjoys problem-solving, client interaction, and seeing projects through on site.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce structural calculations, drawings, and technical reports for domestic projects.
* Work collaboratively with architects, clients, and contractors to develop practical and elegant design solutions.
* Carry out site visits and inspections of existing structures and ongoing works.
* Ensure all designs meet current Building Regulations, codes, and standards.
* Manage multiple small projects with autonomy and attention to detail.
About You
* Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in building structures (domestic/residential ).
* Proficient in the design of steel, timber, masonry, and concrete structures.
* Experience using design software such as Tedds, Tekla, or similar.
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative, design-minded approach.
* Full UK driving licence and own transport for local site visits.
