POSITION SUMMARY
The Structural Department Head / Project Manager is a senior-level engineering professional responsible for overseeing structural engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring technical excellence, budget and schedule adherence, and client satisfaction. This role combines advanced structural design capabilities with team leadership, client relationship management, and project delivery oversight. The position requires both technical acumen and business judgment, along with the ability to mentor junior engineers and drive group performance.KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Oversight and quality assurance of structural assessments, designs, and construction documents.
  • Efficient management of structural engineering projects, including planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and client coordination.
  • Leadership and mentorship of a team of structural engineers and designers.
  • Development of project scopes, proposals, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • High-level technical review of structural calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Integration of structural systems with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and process disciplines.
  • Client communication, relationship building, and business development support.
  • Ensuring project compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage multiple structural engineering projects across the industrial sector
  • Conduct and oversee field inspections and evaluations of existing structures.
  • Provide technical direction and quality control for structural analysis, design, and documentation.
  • Ensure effective interdisciplinary coordination across engineering and architectural teams.
  • Direct the preparation of construction documents, reports, and technical specifications.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the structural group.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and contractors throughout project lifecycles.
  • Monitor and report on project performance metrics, including budgets, schedules, and team productivity.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in structural engineering, including project management and leadership responsibilities.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in structural analysis software, e.g., SAP2000, STAAD
  • Knowledge of CAD and BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit)
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and standards, including IBC, ACI 318, AISC.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor engineering teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in client engagement and proposal development.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in industrial structural design.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Familiarity with design-build workflows
  • Awareness of cost, constructability, and fast-track scheduling impacts
