Job Description
RCH is seeking a seasoned Structural Biologist to support a transition toward higher throughput processing in our structural biology operations. This individual will play a key role in mapping current workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and collaborating with scientific and IT teams to define and implement robust, scalable, and well-integrated systems.
The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise in structural biology with strong process analysis and communication skills. They will define process and system requirements, partner with infrastructure teams to translate scientific needs into technical specifications and participate in testing and validation to ensure new systems meet performance and usability goals.
This is an on-site role (up to 3x per week) based in Wilmington, Delaware offering a unique opportunity to help shape the next phase of our lab’s data and workflow modernization efforts. This role offers a rare opportunity to shape how cutting-edge structural biology is performed at scale. You’ll collaborate closely with scientists, engineers, and IT experts to modernize infrastructure and enable more efficient, data-driven discovery.
Specific Focuses and Responsibilities Include:
- Map existing structural biology workflows and identify pain points or inefficiencies.
- Collaborate with the group lead to design a strategy for scaling and streamlining operations.
- Document and communicate scientific requirements to IT and infrastructure teams.
- Define process and system requirements for future-state infrastructure.
- Participate in system testing and validation to ensure alignment with end-user needs.
- Serve as a liaison between scientists and technical staff to ensure effective implementation of new tools and workflows.
- Support adoption of FAIR data standards and ensure integration across CryoEM, crystallography, and computational pipelines.
Essential Qualifications
- Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
- Strong technical expertise in CryoEM and/or X-ray Crystallography.
- Hands-on experience with key structural biology tools and software, such as Relion, CCP4, CryoSPARC, CryoSPARC Live, AlphaFold
- Proficiency across Mac, Linux, and Windows environments.
- Experience working with AWS (S3, FSx, and related services).
- Demonstrated ability to document workflows, define requirements, and communicate effectively with technical teams.
Qualifications
- CryoEM and Crystallization
- Prior experience integrating structural biology data with high-performance or cloud-based systems.
- Experience implementing or supporting Thermo Fisher CryoEM systems (e.g., Glacios).
- Relion | CCP4 | CryoSPARC | Embedded CryoSPARC Live
- AlphaFold integration into experimental workflows
- Familiarity with Globus and data management pipelines
- Mac / Linux / Windows cross-platform scripting
- AWS S3, FSx, ParallelCluster, Batch, and Glue
- Knowledge of FAIR data principles and application within scientific R&D.
- Background in process mapping or lab informatics improvement projects
This role requires the candidate to be onsite for a minimum of 3 days per week at our client facility in Wilmington, Delaware.
