Structural Analyst (Fellow Engineer)

COMPA Industries is seeking a highly qualified Structural Analyst to support Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, South Carolina.

Position Details

  • Job Title: Fellow Engineer
  • Working Title: Structural Analyst
  • Pay Rate: $100 – $105/hr (W2)
  • Location: Savannah River Site (Aiken, SC) – Onsite
  • Work Schedule: Full-Time (5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80s as approved)
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” Security Clearance

Position Summary

The Structural Analyst will provide advanced structural engineering analysis and design support for DOE- and NRC-regulated nuclear facilities. This role requires recognized expertise in structural analysis under normal and accident loading conditions, application of advanced engineering principles, and the ability to solve complex technical problems with minimal supervision while adhering to SRNS engineering processes and procedures.

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced structural analysis and design for buildings and structures under:
  • Normal operating conditions
  • Accident and extreme loading conditions
  • Conduct dynamic seismic analysis, including:
  • Response spectrum analysis
  • Time-history analysis
  • of in-structure response spectra
  • Perform analysis for:
  • Tornado wind loading
  • Missile penetration and impact
  • Flood, rain, and snow loading
  • Prepare and review technical analyses, calculations, and reports
  • Contribute to technical documentation and engineering publications
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Perform field walkdowns in support of engineering activities

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS (NON-NEGOTIABLE)

Education

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Ph.D. in Civil or Structural Engineering with ~10 years of relevant experience, OR
  • M.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering with ~12 years of relevant experience, OR
  • B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering with ~15 years of relevant experience

Required Technical & Professional Skills

  • Recognized as an internal expert in the structural engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex structural engineering problems independently
  • Proven contribution to advancing technical knowledge through:
  • Internal or external technical publications
  • Professional society presentations or participation
  • Minimum 8 years of recent experience in design and analysis of NRC or DOE-regulated nuclear facilities
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is required
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of structural analysis software, including:
  • STAAD
  • ANSYS
  • ABAQUS
  • or equivalent analysis tools
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Codes and Standards, including:
  • IBC
  • AISC (ASD, LRFD, N690)
  • ACI (318 & 349)
  • ASCE (4, 7 & 43)
  • Ability to perform field walkdowns in active construction environments, including:
  • Walking distances exceeding one-half mile
  • Navigating uneven terrain
  • Climbing ladders
  • Working in protective clothing and industrial settings

SKILLS

  • Candidates who have possessed an active DOE L or Q clearance within the past two (2) years
  • Previous Savannah River Site (SRS) design engineering or broader DOE facility experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Experience performing structural analysis for:
  • Explosion / blast / detonation
  • Deflagration events
  • Experience applying DOE Natural Phenomena Hazards (NPH) criteria, including DOE Standard 1020

Additional Work Requirements

  • Subcontractor must have an active eFOCI registration and Facility Level Clearance with DOE / NNSA
  • Travel is not authorized unless approved in advance by procurement via a fully funded requisition
