Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts on a 2-2-3 pattern — two weeks of days (6:00 am–6:00 pm), followed by two weeks of nights (6:00 pm–6:00 am).

Mission: Keep our facility reliably supplied with steam by operating and maintaining two Union Iron boilers and one Keeler boiler, plus all associated auxiliaries, to ensure a minimum of 85 psi. Support building operations with hands-on facility maintenance to keep systems running efficiently.

A Day in the Life

On shift, you’ll start by verifying boiler status and auxiliaries, checking trends in the Energy Management System, and ensuring water chemistry is on target. You’ll log readings, treat systems as needed, and respond to tenant requests. Between rounds, you’ll tackle preventive maintenance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and light carpentry, keeping safety at the forefront and documenting everything clearly.

Core Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain 2 Union Iron and 1 Keeler boiler with supporting equipment to deliver a minimum of 85 psi steam.
  • Use the Energy Management System to monitor, control, and optimize equipment operation.
  • Collect, record, and maintain operating data and logs.
  • Perform regular water testing, record readings, and apply treatment as needed.
  • Respond to written and verbal trouble calls from building tenants.
  • Execute routine HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Follow safety policies, maintain housekeeping standards, and report unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Track inventory and order materials for the Boiler House.
  • Support engineering and supervision with cost estimates using drawings, sketches, and measurements.
  • Work overtime as required and provide coverage for vacations, illnesses, and holidays.
  • Train others on essential job functions as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus at least 2,000 hours of qualifying work experience.
  • : City of Rochester Class 3 Stationary Engineering License, or the ability to earn it within 2 years of hire.
  • : 7G Pesticide Technician Certification, or the ability to obtain it within 12 months of hire.
  • Operations experience; 3–5 years .
