Hidden Level is transforming airspace safety with innovative, scalable drone detection and airspace technology. We provide real-time, actionable data to enhance security across various environments. As we expand, we're looking for a seasoned Staff Software Test Engineer to lead our testing efforts and drive quality across embedded and cloud-based systems. This role goes beyond test execution—you’ll help define and document test processes, build scalable automation strategies, manage build releases, and integrate testing seamlessly into our CI/CD pipelines using GitLab. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure testing is proactive, reliable, and aligned with development goals.

Location: This position is on-site in Syracuse, NY.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, execution, and maintenance of testing methodologies across embedded and cloud-based systems.
• Develop, document, and maintain test plans, test cases, and standardized QA processes.
• Perform exploratory testing for new features and complex scenarios.
• Build and maintain reliable automated regression test suites integrated into GitLab CI/CD pipelines using modern frameworks.
• Organize and execute build and release activities, including versioning, packaging, and coordinating with DevOps and engineering teams.
• Collaborate closely with developers, DevOps, and product teams to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Maintain high standards of documentation for test processes, defect tracking, and release validation.
• Participate in architecture reviews to ensure testability of new features.
• Mentor junior staff and help establish testing best practices across the engineering team.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 10+ years of experience in software testing, including regression testing and test process ownership.
• Hands-on experience testing embedded systems and cloud-based platforms.
• Proven experience with GitLab CI/CD and integrating tests into DevOps pipelines.
• Proficiency with Linux-based systems, including command-line tools and shell scripting.
• Experience organizing and executing build and release management activities.
• Experience with performance testing and API testing frameworks.
• Experience testing distributed systems and data processing pipelines.
• Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for test automation and tool creation.
• Deep understanding of QA methodologies, including process development and documentation.
• Experience using issue tracking and documentation tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
• Experience with software written in C++ and Python.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• 10% travel.

Compensation and Benefits: Hidden Level offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid parental leave, flexible time off, 401(k) with employer contributions, life insurance, insurance, and potential stock options.

Salary Range: The anticipated salary range for this position based out of Syracuse, NY is estimated at $132,000 to $164,000 annually. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
