The Role As a Staff SWE, you’ll sit at the intersection of technical execution, architecture, and leadership. This is a hands-on role. You’ll write code, own systems, and lead our growing team of engineers, helping us ship production-quality infrastructure while setting a high bar for engineering rigor as we scale. You are not a project manager. You are a builder who can lead. What You'll DoTechnical Leadership
- Own the design and implementation of core backend/platform systems
- Lead architecture discussions and make pragmatic tradeoffs in ambiguous environments
- Set technical direction for a small team while staying deeply involved in the codebase
- Review PRs with an eye toward correctness, performance, and long-term maintainability
- Drive technical decisions across data, infra, and application layers as needed
Team Leadership
- Manage and mentor a small group of engineers
- Provide regular feedback, coaching, and growth guidance
- Help onboard new engineers and set expectations for technical excellence
- Foster a culture of ownership, velocity, and thoughtful engineering
Execution & Delivery
- Break down complex problems into clear milestones
- Balance speed with system quality in a fast-moving startup environment
- Partner closely with product and leadership to align technical work with company goals
- Identify risks early and proactively unblock the team
What We're Looking For
- Strong experience as a senior or staff-level engineer in production systems
- Prior experience leading engineers, formally or informally
- Comfort owning systems end-to-end: design → build → deploy → operate
- Strong fundamentals in:Distributed systemsBackend servicesAPIs and data flows
- Excellent judgment in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Willingness to be hands-on, this role writes real code
Nice to Have
- Experience in early-stage startups
- Background in data infrastructure, ML platforms, or cloud- systems
- Experience scaling systems or teams from “small but working” to “reliable at scale”
- Comfort working across infra, backend, and application layers
