Sterling Engineering is looking for a Senior Structural Project Engineer in Portland, ME supporting a growing engineering consulting organization focused on commercial, institutional, industrial, and infrastructure projects. This opportunity offers long-term growth, leadership responsibility, and exposure to complex structural engineering projects from concept through construction.
Job Summary:The Senior Structural Project Engineer will lead structural analysis, design, and project management activities for a variety of building and infrastructure projects. This role will support project execution from early planning through construction administration while coordinating with clients, architects, contractors, and internal engineering teams.
Job Duties:

  • Lead the analysis, design, and management of structural systems for commercial, institutional, and residential projects
  • Perform structural analysis and design in compliance with applicable building codes and standards
  • Prepare construction documents, calculations, technical reports, plans, and specifications
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables across multiple projects
  • Serve as the primary structural contact for owners, architects, contractors, and consultants
  • Conduct field reviews of existing and active construction projects
  • Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and support construction administration activities
  • Mentor junior engineering staff and support technical development
  • Track project costs and schedules to support successful project delivery
  • Support client relationship management and business development efforts
  • Travel occasionally throughout New England and surrounding regions as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering (Master’s )
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Maine PE or ability to obtain
  • 10+ years of experience supporting structural building design, additions, renovations, and infrastructure projects
  • Experience with steel, concrete, masonry, precast, cold-formed metal, and wood-framed structures
  • Proven ability managing multiple projects from concept through construction within fast-paced environments
  • Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills

Software:

  • Revit
  • RAM
  • Bluebeam
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, and related building codes
