Sr. Project Developer / Energy Engineer

Our client is a nationally recognized Energy Services Company delivering comprehensive energy optimization, infrastructure modernization, and performance contracting solutions across public and institutional markets. Their work focuses on improving facility performance, reducing operating costs, enhancing resiliency, and delivering measurable, guaranteed outcomes.
They are seeking a Sr. Project Developer / Energy Engineer to support projects throughout the New England region. This individual will serve as the primary technical project developer and technical authority for assigned projects, translating customer objectives into accurate, executable, and financeable energy solutions.
Account Executives and regional leadership rely on this role to interpret client technical goals and develop comprehensive strategies that address facility utility consumption, energy reduction initiatives, capital improvement planning, and large‑scale infrastructure modernization programs.
The Project Developer is responsible for leading technical scope development, detailed project costing, energy savings forecasting, and measurement and verification planning. This role also evaluates technical and delivery risk related to feasibility, constructability, scope definition, cost exposure, and performance guarantees. The individual will present findings and recommended solutions to customers and executive stakeholders while partnering closely with delivery teams to ensure successful implementation.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive site surveys to identify mechanical, electrical, and operational inefficiencies
Analyze utility consumption data, facility performance metrics, and financial parameters to develop cost-effective technical solutions
Perform ASHRAE-level 3 and Investment Grade Energy Audits where applicable
Develop energy savings calculations, operational savings models, life‑cycle cost analyses, and feasibility assessments
Establish guaranteed savings based on proposed measures and contractual performance requirements
Build detailed project cost estimates and financial models aligned with customer objectives
Evaluate technical risk related to constructability, scope definition, cost exposure, and performance guarantees
Prepare clear technical documentation and proposal materials that communicate assumptions, risk, and solution design
Coordinate with Account Executives and Project Managers to develop and present technical proposals
Partner with Project Managers during implementation, serving as the technical liaison between sales and operations
Identify and collaborate with subcontractors and consultants to support scope development and quality assurance
Review equipment selections prior to procurement to ensure alignment with estimates and schedule
Maintain strong working knowledge of building systems, energy technologies, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or equivalent experience
8–15+ years of relevant experience in energy engineering, performance contracting, or complex building systems project development
Demonstrated experience developing ESCO or performance contract projects
Experience performing ASHRAE Level III or Investment Grade Energy Audits
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Certifications such as CEM, CMVP, LEED, NEBB, TAB, or ASHRAE
Proficiency with energy modeling and analysis software such as E-Quest, DOE‑2, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools
Strong financial modeling and analytical capabilities
Excellent written, verbal, and executive‑level presentation skillsAbility to independently lead technical scope development and customer‑facing discussion
