General Summary
SunGas Renewables, Inc., (SunGas), (www.sungasrenewables.com), a growing leader in the energy transition continues to expand its team as we continue our mission to make a global impact on the energy transition. SunGas engineers and supplies technology and associated services for the production low-carbon energy and chemicals. In addition, SunGas works with exceptional partners to develop, build, own and operate renewable energy projects utilizing SunGas technology. C2X and SunGas Renewables are advancing their $2B+ Beaver Lake Renewable Energy (BLRE) methanol project in central Louisiana. BLRE will produce 500,000 metric tons of low-carbon methanol annually from sustainable wood fiber while sequestering 1 million metric tons of CO2. Now entering FEL-3, the project is planned to start construction in 2026.

This position reports to SunGas Process Engineering Manager and the VP of Engineering.
Work Location
This a full-time position located in the SunGas offices Monday through Friday. Extended remote work options are not available for this position. SunGas is located near Fallbrook and W. Sam Houston Parkway N. in Houston. Extended or hybrid remote work options are not available for this position, however we do offer the flexibility to work outside of the office on occasion when necessary.
Travel
The position requires occasional travel up to 10% of the time primarily for business and technical meetings, site and shop visits, and to industrial plant facilities.

Primary Responsibilities
- Modelling process simulations in Aspen/HYSYS or similar software and developing specialized modeling tools specific to the SunGas technology system.
- Utilizing and furthering the design methodologies for the SunGas technology system and developing and maintaining SunGas design procedures and tools.
- Implementing process design, equipment sizing and selection, generating equipment and instrument data sheets, developing PFDs and P&IDs, performing hydraulic analysis, control valve sizing, line list , flare and relief valve calculations and others.
- Leading and performing engineering studies, generating engineering design packages, specifying process equipment, reviewing, and analyzing vendor data.
- Collaborating with SunGas project managers to achieve schedule commitments.
- Participating in various client reviews such as process hazard analysis, operability, and constructability reviews.
- Providing technical support for detailed engineering, pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and plant operations. Onsite support will result in some amount of travel and extended stay at project sites.
- Collaborating with process controls specialists to develop DCS control narratives and system logic narratives.
- Analyzing problems and taking appropriate action to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Ensuring proper quality checks through conducting and following peer and squad check procedures and verifying proper documentation of input data.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
- Familiarity with fluidized beds, solids handling systems, biomass conversion, steam methane reforming, oxycombustion, carbon capture, fuels/methanation synthesis and reactions.
- Knowledge of new and novel chemical processes is a plus.
- Some experience with thermal integration of varied process technologies.
- Well-versed in engineering workflows and project delivery from both client and vendor perspectives.
- Well-established process engineering skills including system design, of heat and material balances, PFDs, and PIDs, process design criteria, equipment sizing, process modeling, plant integration, and technical design and oversight.
- Working knowledge of Hazard Analysis methodologies and safety systems.
- Skilled to work with cross-functional teams to achieve project results within required timeframes.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in prioritizing tasks and solving problems, chasing issues through resolution.
- Outgoing and energized by bringing the best out of everyone on the team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Client facing/interaction experience.
- Skilled in revision control and methods.
Required Education and Experience
- A minimum of a bachelors degree in chemical engineering with 10+ years of related experience.
- Highly experienced with process simulation using AspenTech programs such as Aspen Plus and HYSYS, and other process simulators.
- Experienced with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar software for drafting and editing P&IDs .
- Other relevant formal training including HAZOP, HAZID, Project Management is a plus.
- Strong background working in EPC and systems engineering is a plus.
- Experience with plant operation and process controls is a plus.
