Job Overview

We are looking to hire Senior Mechanical Test Engineers focused on Power Electronics for our Hardware Testing team. As a Senior Mechanical Test Engineer, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to build and use hardware, firmware, and software solutions to validate Tesla Power Electronics products against internal and automotive standards. Your work will influence product design through reliability testing from early concept phases through development, launch, and post-launch. The role involves significant hands-on testing in the lab, pushing prototypes to their limits and investigating failures.

Responsibilities

Perform validation and reliability testing of devices, components, systems, and vehicles under realistic and accelerated conditions.

Design, build, instrument, and automate testing equipment for mechanical, thermal, and electrical testing.

Collaborate with Design Engineers, Reliability Scientists, Material Scientists, Quality, and Service teams to identify failure modes and develop test plans.

Analyze, document, and present test results to cross-functional teams and leadership.

Lead testing efforts for power electronics programs, coordinating with test engineers and technicians.

Investigate failures in Power Electronics assemblies to improve product development and testing.

Design experiments to explore new technologies or address critical failures.

Apply skills learned in the lab to benefit vehicle products.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.

Strong understanding of statics, heat transfer, mechanics, materials science, fluid dynamics, measurement, and failure analysis.

Experience designing mechanical structures in 3D CAD software.

Proficiency with object-oriented programming and scripting (Python, MATLAB, etc.).

Experience designing mechanical and thermal test setups, such as fixtures for vibe, shock, or thermal cycling.

Basic knowledge of linear circuits and electrical test equipment; familiarity with high voltage systems or power electronics is .

Experience with validation plans and test methods for performance validation.

Strong problem-solving skills.

Expected salary range: $80,000 - $156,000 annually, plus stock awards and benefits. Compensation varies based on experience, location, and other factors.
