The Middleby Corporation (NASDAQ MIDD) is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Automation Engineer to join our Lab2Fab® Middleby Automation team. You will help drive the development and adoption of groundbreaking technology for commercial restaurants, including our FryBot™ and PizzaBot™ systems.

As a Sr. Automation Engineer, you will design and program automated systems using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's), motion controllers, servo motors, stepper motors, and other industrial automation hardware. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing efficient and reliable automated kitchen solutions.

Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement control systems, including sequence control, motion control, servos\steppers, and HMIs
- Implement and optimize motion control algorithms for various industrial automation hardware
- Troubleshoot and optimize motion control systems, addressing issues with vibration, resonance, precision and efficiency
- Integrate and interface with various sensors including infrared, ultrasonic, and LiDAR
- Define automation system architecture, including flow diagrams, state machines, and software architecture
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to embedded systems, motion control hardware and sensor integration
- Create and manage design documentation, including troubleshooting and operation manuals
- Contribute to product definition and design in partnership with Product Management, Operations, Sales, R&D, and partner engineering teams
- Participate in the and review of intellectual property
- Stay updated with latest trends in PLC, embedded systems, motion control and sensor technologies
- Travel to support clients and installations (up to 25%)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
- At least 5 years’ experience in designing and programming automation systems using robots, PLCs, motion controllers, and other industrial automation hardware
- Proficiency in programming commonly used in automation, such as C, structured text, or function block diagrams
- Hands-on experience with PLCs, motion controllers, servos, steppers and other motor types.
- Experience in servo tuning, torque feedback analysis, and coordinated motion control
- Strong understanding of industrial control systems, automation protocols (e.g., CAN bus, Modbus), and communication networks
- Solid knowledge of electrical and electronic components used in automation systems.
- Experience in system integration and troubleshooting of automation systems, including hardware and software components
- Proven track record of delivering automation projects on time and within budget
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
