Job DescriptionJob Description

Solution Architect – Enterprise GIS, AI Systems & Solution Train Integration

Location: Washington, D.C. Metro Area

Clearance: Active Top Secret/SCI Eligible
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a senior Solution Architect to support a Federal Government Program Executive Office (PEO) by providing enterprise-level architectural leadership across two critical domains:

  1. Development of the architectural roadmap to consolidate multiple Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) into a single enterprise GIS, and
  2. Integration and alignment of the architectures for two Artificial Intelligence (AI) Major System Acquisitions (MSAs).

In addition, the architect will play a central role in establishing and governing a Solution Train construct, ensuring architectural alignment, workflow synchronization, and cross-program interoperability across multiple Agile Release Trains.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise GIS & AI Architecture

  • Develop the Enterprise GIS Architecture Roadmap, including target-state architecture, data standards, interoperability frameworks, and migration sequencing.
  • Define the integrated technical baseline and roadmap for merging two AI MSAs, including data pipelines, model lifecycle architectures, shared services, and interoperability requirements.
  • Ensure all architectures align with federal standards for open systems and enterprise interoperability.
  • Produce high-quality architectural artifacts (views, diagrams, ICDs, capability roadmaps) for leadership and milestone reviews.

Solution Train & Agile Integration

  • Establish system information requirements using analysis provided by information engineers and ensure compatibility with enterprise-wide standards and open architecture principles.
  • Develop and maintain a Solution Train construct for the program—including architectural guidance, synchronization processes, and coordination across all Release Trains.
  • Work closely with software developers, Product Owners, Product Managers, Release Train Managers (RTMs), Feature Support Engineers, and industry partners to align schedules, workflows, and configuration management across Sprints and Program Increments.
  • Support synchronization and integration of software requirements across Release Trains, ensuring dependencies, cross-program functionality, and delivered capabilities align with overall architecture.
  • Provide architectural guidance across the Solution Release Train and ensure alignment with both program-level architecture and broader enterprise (e.g., NGA) architectural frameworks.
  • Ensure all interdependencies between Release Trains are accurately reflected in the Solution Train Architecture and coordinate the development and execution of all Release Train architectural baselines.

JIRA & Confluence Governance

  • Lead the JIRA/Confluence Change Control Board, establishing standardized templates, workflows, documentation standards, and reporting structures.
  • Ensure compliance with government record management policies for all JIRA/Confluence entries, including scope, acceptance criteria, record types, and capability descriptions.
  • Oversee governance of JIRA and Confluence use across Agile workflows, contractors, and software development teams, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and identification of gaps requiring correction.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years experience in enterprise or solution architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting GIS environments, geospatial systems, or large-scale geospatial data platforms.
  • Strong background in AI/ML system architecture, cloud environments, and data-centric systems.
  • Experience operating within Agile, SAFe, Release Train, or Solution Train environments.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, and Agile workflow governance.
  • Experience supporting Federal Government program offices, PEOs, or Major System Acquisitions.
  • Active TS/SCI eligible

Qualifications

  • Certifications: TOGAF, SAFe Architect/SAFe SPC, AWS Architect, Palantir, or ESRI certifications.
  • Experience working with enterprise architecture frameworks (DoDAF, FEAF) and MBSE tools.
  • Background in DevSecOps, CI/CD, and cloud- architecture patterns.
  • Experience supporting federal geospatial and/or AI modernization programs.
