Position Description

As a Software Engineer, you will work closely with senior team members and government personnel to maintain and enhance the performance of . This role emphasizes learning, collaboration, and practical problem-solving in high-tempo operational settings. You will gain valuable experience tackling software and technical challenges while contributing to training and integration events. This position will work primarily at government facilities with opportunity to work remotely about 25% of the time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fleet Operations Support:
  • Work alongside Navy operators to resolve issues and integrate new technologies with the GARC maritime autonomy platform.
  • Documentation & Communication:

Assist in generating and releasing technical, operational, and training documentation in line with BlackSea standards. Support Navy and government program office personnel with clear and actionable materials.

  • Configuration Management:Design and execute automated and manual processes to track changes and validate platform software configuration on multiple devices and systems.
  • Troubleshooting:

Assess performance of autonomous behaviors and think critically to identify and fix integration issues, resolve bugs, and recommend design improvements.

  • Collaboration:

Effectively communicate with government and industry stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, to explain complex issue related to autonomy software.

  • Continuous learning:

Stay updated with evolving autonomy software technologies and government and industry trends. Advise on current capabilities, limitations and help make predictions for the future.

  • Event Participation:
  • Take part in training, integration, and RDTE (Research, Development, Test & Evaluation) events. Some travel is required to provide on-site support and training when exercises are non-local to San Diego.

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field is required.
  • Relevant internships or hands-on project experience in autonomy software or maritime systems is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in software or computer engineering.
  • Skills:
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming including C++.
  • Experience working with DDS including RTI and UMAA on autonomous systems and maritime robotics.
  • Ability to use data and system logs to analyze issues, identify root causes, and develop solutions.
  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt to high-tempo operational environments.
  • Basic understanding of documentation standards and technical communication for government or military applications.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with industry and Navy personnel.
  • Excellent communication and soft skills to directly interface with customers and represent BlackSea company values.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with sUSV platforms or similar unmanned maritime systems.

  • Knowledge of Navy operational processes and fleet standards is beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel to support training, integration, and operational events.
  • Active government clearance.
