JOB TITLE: SLI Battery Assembly DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing
JOB SUMMARY: The SLI Battery Assembler is responsible for equipment set-up and changeovers. This position ensures operations and troubleshooting to produce flooded acid and AGM battery types. The SLI Battery Assembler must ensure products produced meet all specifications and quality characteristics while machines are running within the set parameters.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Is responsible for:
- Understanding and following policies, procedures and instructions.
- Identifying and reporting product, process and quality system non-conformities to lead personnel.
- Controlling nonconforming products.
- Supporting implementation of corrective/preventive and improvement actions.
- Proper use of personal protective equipment when required.
- Responsible for day to day housekeeping of the surrounding production floor area and machines.
- Follows all plant safety guidelines, practices, and procedures including the proper use of personal protective equipment where required.
- Responsible for testing batteries for direct shorts within each cell using hand held probes or an automated short testing machine.
- Responsible for welding cells together within the container using an automated spot-welding machine.
- Applies cover to the container using automated heat-sealing machine.
- Responsible for bonds cover bushing to post cell manually using torch, lead stick, and post mold or by using automated post bonding machine.
- Responsible for testing batteries for perimeter leaks using an automated leak testing machine.
- Responsible for stamping assembled battery with date code using automated pin stamping machine and sends battery to SLI Forming.
- Be familiar and compliant with the systems, procedures, and documentation of the Crown Quality System and how it relates to this position and Crown quality objectives.
ACCOUNTABILITY: This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS:
- Must be 18 years of
- Experience with safety and environmental training
- Minimum 1 year manufacturing/factory experience in a fast paced setting
- Basic math and computer skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervision, and management
- Familiar with inspection equipment, gauges, and measuring tools
- Mechanically inclined and able to use hand tools and a torch
- Ability to listen effectively and follow verbal and written instructions
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand/walk for 8-10 hours at a time. Bending, twisting, and turning. Full use of both hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools, or tooling; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk to hear. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds frequently and in excess of 140 pounds infrequently. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must follow OSHA guidelines on respirator fit testing and proper wear. Will wear goggles or face shield at all times while in department.
