Marine Systems Technician (Shipboard Mechanic/Electrician)

Location: Hampton Roads, VA
Industry: Shipyard / Marine Maintenance


About the Role

We’re seeking skilled Marine Systems Technicians to join our team supporting shipboard repairs and maintenance at the waterfront. This position is ideal for mechanically inclined professionals who also have electrical experience and enjoy hands-on work in an active shipyard environment.

You’ll be responsible for performing a variety of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs on ships and marine vessels — both in dry dock and aboard ships.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, troubleshooting, and repair of shipboard mechanical and electrical systems
  • Maintain and repair pumps, valves, motors, generators, and control systems
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Conduct equipment testing to ensure systems are fully operational
  • Work safely in confined spaces and shipboard environments
  • Collaborate with engineers, welders, and other trades to complete repairs on schedule


Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of shipyard or marine maintenance experience
  • Strong background in mechanical systems and basic electrical troubleshooting
  • Ability to use hand tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA standards and ship repair procedures
  • Must be able to work onboard vessels and in various weather conditions
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen


Skills

  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and propulsion systems
  • Experience working on naval or commercial ships
  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
