Role Summary (Purpose)\n\nAs a key member of the Production team, the Shift Process Operator is responsible for helping deliver the safety, production and financial targets for the Barnstone packing operation.\n\nReporting to the Shift Co‑ordinator, the role holder is accountable for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of allocated plant areas, ensuring optimum performance and throughput. The role involves operating plant equipment, including packing lines, blending systems and forklift trucks, alongside supporting maintenance and continuous improvement activities.\n\nThe role requires flexibility to undertake additional duties such as first‑line maintenance, cleaning and manual handling, ensuring all activities are carried out in line with Tarmac / CRH standards, policies and safe systems of work.\n\nKey Relationships\n\nInternal\n\nShift Teams\nProduction Teams\nMaintenance Teams\n\nExternal\n\nContractors\n\nKey Tasks & Responsibilities\n\nHealth, Safety & Environment\n\nEnsure all work is carried out in line with safe working procedures, risk assessments and STOP processes.\nPromote and demonstrate strong Health, Safety and Environmental standards.\nEnsure correct use of PPE at all times.\nSafely operate mobile and fixed plant within busy and congested areas.\nRespond to emergencies, including plant isolation (lock‑out), first‑level emergency response and first aid where trained.\nReport and record accidents, unsafe conditions and environmental incidents and take corrective action.\n\nOperations & Production\n\nOperate all packing plant equipment to maximise throughput and meet production targets.\nCarry out daily production reporting and ensure all documentation is completed accurately.\nLoad and unload HGVs and manage material movements to stock.\nConduct basic on‑line testing to verify mix design.\nEnsure raw materials and additives are available in the correct locations and quantities.\nAccurately measure and report stock levels.\nCommunicate any plant issues, stoppages or throughput limitations to Maintenance before shift end.\n\nMaintenance & Continuous Improvement\n\nIdentify and carry out minor maintenance tasks and adjustments.\nEnsure machinery lubrication is maintained in line with manufacturer specifications.\nSupport Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and contribute to improvement actions.\nWork collaboratively with the wider team to drive continuous improvement.\nReview plant and process conditions in line with job plans.\n\nHousekeeping & Compliance\n\nMaintain high housekeeping standards across the plant and work areas.\nIdentify and report poor housekeeping practices.\nEnsure all operational and compliance documentation is completed accurately and on time.\nWork in full compliance with company procedures, policies and regulatory requirements.\n\nNature & Area of Impact\n\nThe Shift Process Operator plays a key role in ensuring production plans are delivered safely and efficiently, contributing to overall site performance and customer demand.\n\nKey areas of operation include:\n\nSafe operation of packing lines (Adams and Benjamin)\nCement milling and micro‑cement production\nSand dryer operations\nPowder blending and feed delivery systems\nBig bag (IBC) filling operations\nPallet storage and loading\n\nQualifications, Experience, Skills & Knowledge\n\nExperience\n\nEssential: Experience in a busy manufacturing or production environment\nEssential: Experience operating fast‑moving plant and fault finding\nDesirable: Experience with robotic production lines\nBeneficial: Electrical or mechanical knowledge within heavy industry\n\nSkills & Knowledge\n\nStrong Health, Safety and Environmental awareness\nGood IT skills\nStrong problem‑solving and troubleshooting ability\nMechanical understanding of industrial plant\nStrong communication skills (verbal and written) with clear reporting ability\nExcellent timekeeping and reliability\nAbility to manage and prioritise multiple tasks\nHigh attention to detail and accuracy\nAbility to make decisions and take appropriate action\n\nPersonal Attributes &
