Service Technician\n\nLOCATION: Cambridge SALARY: Competitive REF: ALS 3042\n\nWe are looking to recruit a Service Technician to join our team to provide a high level of care and hygiene to laboratory animals used in medical research. The successful candidate will provide a service to maintain the facility and selected areas. You will be responsible for helping with autoclaving of equipment, sterilisation, stock control and supplies.\n\nBasic Requirements:\n\n * 3 GCSE passes or equivalent including General literacy and numeracy\n\n * Experience working with cleaning machinery and equipment is desirable\n\n * Knowledge of the use of cleaning chemicals and sterilising instruments would be useful\n\n * Good oral and written communication skills\n\n * Practical experience working within a research environment is desirable\n\n * Experience with health and safety standards and implementation are advantageous\n\n * Comfortable working alone or within a larger team depending on the task\n\n * Ability to organise/prioritise workload\n\n * Follow and maintain a meticulous level of sterilisation protocols including the use of autoclaving equipment.\n\n * Flexible and adaptable with overtime for evenings and weekend work.\n\nDuties and Responsibilities:\n\n * General cleaning, housekeeping and upkeep of the animal facility.\n\n * Perform cleaning and sterilisation of animal cages and equipment by operating large washers, autoclaves and fumigation/decontamination chambers.\n\n * Preparation of procedure rooms/operating theatres and sterilisation of equipment.\n\n * Disposal of waste material, special waste and animal carcases, in a compliant and safe manner.\n\n * Carry out basic equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and reports.\n\n * Follow Standard Operating Procedures and quality assurance purposes to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and other relevant legislation
