About the Company
TCS Consulting are recruiting on behalf of a leading UK-based automation and engineering solutions provider that designs and builds bespoke automation systems for industries including medical, oil & gas, food, and aerospace.
Due to continued growth and increased demand for service and support, our client is seeking a skilled and proactive Service & Controls Engineer to join their expanding engineering team.
The Role
This is a varied and hands-on position combining field-based service work with in-house controls and commissioning projects. The successful candidate will support, maintain, and develop advanced automation systems across a range of applications, ensuring reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction.
Core Responsibilities
Provide on-site and remote technical support for customer breakdowns and service contracts.
Perform diagnostics, fault-finding, and repairs on control systems, robotics, and automation equipment.
Support in-house project work, including PLC programming, commissioning, and electrical system integration.
Travel to customer sites across the UK and occasionally overseas (Full UK driving licence required).
Participate in an on-call rota to provide remote and emergency support (typically one week on, approximately biweekly).
On-Call & Call-Out Details
On-Call Allowance: Paid at £X per hour for each hour on call outside normal working hours.
Call-Out Work: Paid at your standard hourly rate + 25% premium when attending site outside normal hours.
All travel time for call-outs is paid in full.
Working Hours
Standard office hours are flexible — typically 8:00am–4:00pm or 9:00am–5:00pm, Monday to Friday.
The company promotes a flexible “give-and-take” approach: when projects require extra commitment, this is balanced with time off when workloads permit.
