Senior Town Planner – Client-Side (MRTPI Chartered Planner)
A large leading, fast-growing client-side property and hospitality business is seeking a Senior Town Planner to support the Head of Planning across a varied estate—including hotels, offices, commercial spaces, and strategic land holdings in London and the Home Counties. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of complex, high-impact projects from inception to completion within a dynamic owner-operator environment.
The Role
- Lead complex planning projects from feasibility through to consent, discharge, and delivery.
- Support site acquisitions with thorough due diligence: policy/designation checks, planning history, and land-use constraints.
- Undertake site appraisals to determine development potential and risks.
- Provide proactive planning advice on upcoming and ongoing developments, ensuring compliance with existing permissions and identifying material changes.
- Monitor live schemes against planning conditions and obligations; advise on compliance strategy and variations.
- Accurately review drawings and measure to scale using Adobe or similar software.
- Engage directly with operational teams (e.g., hotel/general managers) on site-specific proposals and the scope/limits of permitted development rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise property, legal, and construction colleagues on a broad spectrum of planning matters.
- Prepare and submit planning applications for a range of development types.
- Draft written representations and manage appeals (written reps, hearings, inquiries).
- Make representations to Local Plans and respond to planning enforcement issues.
- Lead negotiations with LPAs and statutory consultees to secure timely, positive outcomes.
- Contribute to wider estate strategy and any other planning-related duties as needed.
Skills & Experience
- MRTPI Chartered Town Planner (or equivalent) with 4+ years’ relevant experience (client-side, consultancy, or public sector).
- Strong grasp of UK planning policy and process, with evidence of delivering complex cases.
- Confident stakeholder manager, able to influence senior leaders and external partners.
- Solid development management experience and familiarity with a wide range of application types.
- Excellent report writing, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
- Commercially minded, pragmatic, and delivery-focused.
- Heritage experience/interest advantageous.
- Full UK driving licence (essential).
