Job Description

Senior Test Development Engineer \n \n Location: Glenrothes or Livingston \n \n About the role: \n Responsible for the design, manufacture, verification and validation, along with through life technical support of board level, sub-system and system level test equipment. \n \n Skills: \n • Test software design \n • Excellent knowledge of analogue and digital electronic circuit design \n • Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation \n • Proven knowledge in handover and management of designs in production \n • Excellent hardware troubleshooting skills \n • Able to support/debug system integration \n • Must be eligible for MOD Security Clearance to a minimum of SC level \n \n Highly Desirable: \n • Significant test development in a safety critical industry \n • Use of Mentor Graphics schematic entry and PCB layout tools \n • Understanding of common test architectures PXI/d LXI \n • Measurement Uncertainty and its application in test equipment design and validation \n • Software Certification or detailed knowledge of: NI LabView, NI CVI, NI TestStand, C# \n • Design of mix signal circuits \n • High speed serial networks \n • An appreciation of RF electronics \n • Knowledge of power supply design \n \n Responsibilities \n • Design of functional test equipment for circuit cards, sub-assemblys and systems. \n • To take responsibility for the design and overall quality of the test equipment and provide leadership and guidance for junior engineers.

\n • Documentation of design specifications and implementation details. Take part in design reviews. Upholding of design standards and methodologies.

\n • Realisation of complex system requirements to provide robust and reliable test hardware solutions. \n • Responsibility for the complete implementation of detailed technical items and an understanding/appreciation of system level items. \n • Collaboration with other team members (including both hardware and software engineers) to agree system designs, interfaces and protocols etc.

\n • Development of appropriate test hardware, test software and procedures, both informal and formal, to prove the correct operation of hardware. \n • Provide support to manufacturing answering product queries & resolving technical issues. \n • Provide support for the test hardware and manage obsolescence throughout its lifecycle.

\n • Monitoring and reporting of progress of test development to immediate supervisor and development team. \n • Proactively support company compliance to Health and Safety legislation through adherence to company polices, processes and practices. \n • Ensure that all business activity is conducted in line with company values, policies and ethics codes of conduct.

\n • Undertake any other activity as reasonably requested by management \n • Application of Design Review Processes \n • Accountable for engineering specific risks and opportunities. \n • Key contributor at Gate/Design reviews \n • Provides guidance of Test Development processes and tools. \n • Contribute to section/business area resource planning with a working understanding of Microsoft Project tools.

\n • Test Engineering Lead for a small/medium scale test engineering program \n • Ability to identify and engage the appropriate SMEs to support the Test Development Engineering activities. \n • Contributor/Approver for standard/tailored test development process including Design Review gates and content \n • Key interface to external customers/suppliers
