Job DescriptionJob Description

NOW HIRING: STRUCTURAL ENGINEER III – SENIOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

Monday–Friday | 8:00AM–4:30PM | On-site in Douglassville, PA

Location: 531 Old Swede Road – Douglassville, PA 19518
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Full-time hours on-site
Compensation: Competitive salary up to $134,000+ based on experience, technical depth, and market data—top-of-range compensation is reserved for candidates who demonstrate strong, job-relevant experience and independent capability

If you’re a structural engineer who wants real ownership of design decisions—and prefers applying sound engineering judgment to real-world equipment over theoretical analysis—this role will feel like a natural fit.

At American Crane & Equipment Corporation (ACECO), we’re looking for a senior-level structural engineer to design and support custom crane and lifting systems used in high-consequence industries like nuclear and aerospace.

This is not a “run calculations and move on” role—your decisions directly impact real equipment in the field.

You won’t get lost here—your work will be seen, and it will matter.

What This Role Really Is

This is a senior-level, hands-on engineering role—you’ll spend most of your time performing structural analysis, developing designs, reviewing calculations, and being accountable for engineering decisions that affect safety, manufacturability, and real-world performance.

Who Thrives Here (and Who Doesn’t)

You’ll do well here if you:

  • Take ownership of your designs and stand behind your engineering decisions
  • Enjoy applying structural theory to practical, buildable solutions
  • Collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and field teams

This role is likely not a fit if you:

  • Prefer highly segmented roles with limited ownership
  • Want to avoid accountability for final design outcomes
  • Prefer purely theoretical or academic engineering work

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

  • Learn ACECO design standards, workflows, and project expectations
  • Begin contributing to structural calculations and design reviews with minimal ramp-up
  • Build working relationships across Engineering, Manufacturing, and Project Management
  • Support real-time problem solving tied to production and field needs
  • Progress toward owning structural scope on assigned projects

Why Join Our Team at American Crane? (Check us out on YouTube here)

  • Engineering Ownership – Responsible for decisions, not just calculations
  • Mission-Critical Work – Designs used in nuclear, aerospace, and high-risk environments
  • Cross-Functional Impact – Direct collaboration with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Field teams
  • Technical Respect – Engineering judgment drives decisions, not bureaucracy
  • Stability & Growth – Long-term workforce with strong internal development

What You’ll Do

Structural Analysis & Design

  • Perform advanced structural analysis and calculations for steel structures and lifting equipment
  • Apply structural theory to practical, manufacturable designs
  • Design girders, columns, connections, and fatigue-critical components

Engineering Documentation & Review

  • Create, review, and approve structural calculations, reports, and design documentation
  • Review calculations, drawings, and design packages prepared by other engineers
  • Ensure designs meet code requirements and internal standards

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Project Management teams
  • Support manufacturing with constructability and design clarification
  • Provide technical solutions to Field Service teams

Technical Leadership (Non-Supervisory)

  • Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge
  • Support continuous improvement, quality, and safety initiatives
  • Contribute to engineering best practices and standards

What We’re Looking For

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET/EAC-accredited program required
  • Master’s degree but not required

Experience

  • 7+ years of structural engineering experience
  • Strong experience with steel structures and lifting equipment

Technical Skills

  • Strong background in structural analysis, strength of materials, and beam theory
  • Experience designing steel structures, connections, and fatigue-critical systems
  • Familiarity with AISC, ASCE/SEI 7, CMAA, AWS, ASME, and ACI 318 codes
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering calculations and designs
  • Proficiency with tools such as Mathcad, Excel, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar
  • FEA, seismic, or vibration analysis experience is a plus

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong ownership mindset and engineering accountability
  • Ability to apply theory to real-world applications
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • High level of technical judgment and integrity
  • Alignment with ACECO values: Work Hard, Have Fun, and Do the Right Thing

Licensure

  • EIT/EI
  • PE license strongly valued but not required

REQUIREMENTS

  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
  • Ability to verify and employment authorization (Form I-9)
  • Eligibility to access export-controlled information where applicable

  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment drug screen and randomized drug testing during employment
  • Ability to meet the posted work schedule and required hours
  • Ability to maintain reliable attendance and punctuality

  • Willingness to wear appropriate PPE when in shop or manufacturing areas
  • Willingness to complete required safety and compliance training
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to maintain professional conduct aligned with company expectations

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

  • Ability to work full-time on-site Monday–Friday
  • Ability to occasionally travel to job sites or customer facilities
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to nuclear facilities if required
  • Ability to work in office, manufacturing, and occasional field environments
