Job DescriptionJob DescriptionAbout the Client
Our client is an established innovator in the advanced diagnostics and precision instrumentation space, serving leading-edge companies in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. Headquartered in Northern California, they design and build sophisticated systems that help accelerate chip development, debug silicon failures, and enhance production yields. Their technologies integrate laser-based imaging, signal analysis, and hardware/software synchronization for deep transistor-level insights.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, multidisciplinary engineering role where you'll go well beyond conventional software development. You’ll take ownership of designing and building control software for highly specialized diagnostic systems, integrating precision hardware like lasers, motion stages, and electronic test instruments. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in semiconductor device physics, instrument control, and user interface development to bridge the gap between physical analysis and digital insight.
Responsibilities
-
Design and implement control software for high-precision optical and electronic systems used in semiconductor failure analysis.
-
Collaborate with hardware engineers and domain experts to translate complex diagnostic requirements into intuitive software solutions.
-
Build control frameworks that integrate with CAD navigation platforms for real-time chip-level mapping and targeting.
-
Develop high-performance desktop applications (C#/WPF) for data visualization, including waveform display, emission mapping, and device navigation.
-
Lead system integration efforts across lasers, optics, motion stages, and signal acquisition hardware (oscilloscopes, source meters, etc.).
-
Troubleshoot and resolve intricate system-level issues, improving stability, responsiveness, and throughput.
-
Author documentation covering system architecture, testing procedures, and maintenance protocols.
Requirements
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related semiconductor-focused discipline.
-
Minimum 5 years of experience developing control software for complex instruments or diagnostic equipment.
-
Proficient in C++, C#, and WPF for Windows-based applications.
-
Deep understanding of semiconductor devices, failure mechanisms, and related diagnostics.
-
Experience with CAD navigation software used for chip analysis and fault localization.
Experience
-
Familiarity with diagnostic techniques such as TIVA, LIVA, LADA, OBIRCH, or photon emission.
-
Background in optical or laser-based instrumentation.
-
Hands-on experience working with hardware interfaces such as USB, PCIe, RS-232/485, or FPGA-based systems.
-
Prior experience in companies developing semiconductor inspection or metrology tools.
-
Exposure to real-time data acquisition and high-performance data visualization.
