Senior Software Engineer - Infrastructure in Mountain View

Job DescriptionJob Description

Role Description

We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure team within Platform. You’ll

join a small, focused team with high ownership and closely collaborate with the Technical Lead

and Director of Platform on architecture and delivery.

The Infrastructure team builds and operates shared services that every engineering team

depends on (authentication, authorization, developer tooling, notifications, and public APIs).

Rather than owning a single product, you’ll work across foundational platform capabilities that

serve both internal engineering teams and external partners.

Your primary focus will be two high-priority initiatives:

1. Developer Portal — Build a production-grade, partner-facing developer platform that

delivers an industry-leading onboarding and integration experience. Partners will use this

portal to discover APIs, manage credentials, access interactive documentation, view

usage metrics, search request logs, and integrate with the Client's platform with

minimal support from our team.

2. Notification Service — Expand our notification platform to support in-app notifications,

event-driven callbacks (webhooks), and integration with delivery and engagement

reporting from providers like SendGrid and Twilio (e.g., click tracking, bounce reporting,

delivery status).

What You’ll Do

• Platform Development: Support designing and building the Developer Portal including

account management, interactive API documentation, request log search, and usage

metrics dashboards.

• API Design: Build tooling that transforms internal Swagger/OpenAPI specs into

partner-facing API documentation. Managing API Gateway routes, stripping internal-only

fields, normalizing auth schemes, and producing consistent error models and versioning.

The underlying APIs are built by domain teams; your focus is making them clean,

consistent, and ready for external consumption.

• Infrastructure as Code: Write and maintain Terraform/Terragrunt configurations for AWS

services including API Gateway, Lambda authorizers, Cognito, and supporting

infrastructure across multiple environments (dev, QA, production).

• Notification Platform: Extend the notification service to handle in-app notifications,

webhook delivery, and event ingestion from third-party messaging providers.

• Security & Auth: Work within and refine our existing authorization system, covering

Cognito-based , M2M and user token validation, API key management, and API

Gateway authorization to support partner access patterns.

• Developer Experience: Build services and tooling that enable external partners to

onboard, authenticate, test integrations, and troubleshoot issues independently.

• Operations & Reliability: Support day-to-day operation of Infrastructure services,

including monitoring, incident response, debugging production issues, and partnering with

SRE to ensure availability and performance.

• Technical Leadership: Lead technical design discussions, mentor engineers, conduct

thoughtful code reviews, and help define engineering standards.

Qualifications

Required

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building production backend

services or shared platform capabilities.

• Strong proficiency with Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS (or comparable backend

frameworks).

• Experience with AWS services including API Gateway, Lambda, Cognito, IAM, and

CloudWatch.

• Hands-on experience writing and maintaining Terraform or Terragrunt for production

infrastructure.

• Experience designing and implementing authentication and authorization systems using

OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect, or AWS Cognito.

• Experience designing and implementing REST APIs using OpenAPI/Swagger

specifications.

• Experience building reusable SDKs, shared libraries, or internal developer tooling

consumed by multiple teams.

• A security-first mindset and attention to least-privilege, secret management, and audit

logging when designing systems that handle credentials, API keys, and access tokens.

• Strong understanding of API lifecycle management, versioning, and backwards

compatibility.

• Experience with Git workflows and modern CI/CD pipelines.

• Professional proficiency in English (both written and spoken).

Nice to Have

• Experience building Developer Portals, API platforms, or partner-facing developer

products.

• Experience integrating with email and messaging platforms such as SendGrid, Twilio, or

similar services.

• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized applications.

• Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or CloudWatch.

• Familiarity with webhook delivery systems.

• Experience with GitHub Actions

About the Team

The Developer Portal and Partner API Platform initiative is owned by the Infrastructure team in

partnership with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). Your primary users are internal product

engineering teams and external API partners.

We use AI-assisted development tools extensively and expect engineers to leverage them

effectively.

What Success Looks Like

A successful engineer in this role will deliver a self-service developer portal that reduces partner

onboarding from days of back-and-forth to hours of independent integration, build the tooling

pipeline that keeps partner-facing API documentation accurate and consistent as domain teams

ship changes, expand the notification platform to support reliable in-app notifications, event

reporting from messaging providers, and contribute to a platform that scales.
