About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Protein/Organic Chemistry Scientist passionate about developing innovative and sustainable biomaterials. The role involves developing new formulations to enhance the properties of our biopolymer-based materials, with a specific focus on crosslinking methods for collagen-based formulations.
Senior Scientist – Organic Chemistry / Crosslinking
Salary: Up to £55,000 + Benefits including Private Health, bonus, Flexible Working Hours
Location: Cambridge
Core Responsibilities:
- Discover and implement new crosslinking technologies for collagen-based and other biopolymer and protein-based biomaterials.
- Explore protein modification techniques, conduct trials, and evaluate material performance.
- Establish structure-property correlations.
- Review relevant research articles and patents.
- Act as an organic chemistry expert within the R&D team, ensuring chemistry compatibility in formulation development.
- Conduct, analyze, and report chemical/mechanical performance of samples.
- Explore and evaluate creative methods to improve material performance.
- Monitor and report on work packages, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
- Ensure all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards.
Technical Requirements:
- 2 years’ experience in organic chemistry or a similar field.
- Postdoc in organic chemistry or a related field.
- Solid knowledge and skills in protein/peptide chemistry, with a focus on crosslinking chemistry.
- Experience and knowledge in collagen-based soft materials (film/matrix/sponge/hydrogel) is a plus.
- Experience and knowledge in rheology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience in working in a team environment.
- Must have permission to work in the UK.
