Job Description

AbbVie is on the lookout for an innovative and driven scientist to join our Pharmacology and Cell Biology group within Discovery Research Psychiatry as a Sr. Scientist, specializing in iPSC Models. This pivotal role will drive the conception and execution of novel iPSC-based models for psychiatric research, playing a crucial part in target identification, validation and project advancement. By joining our dynamic and growing team, you will use your expertise to critically evaluate relevant scientific literature, generate new scientific proposals, and contribute to research and development programs. Responsibilities

  • Independently design, optimize and characterize iPSC-based models of psychiatric diseases.
  • Perform genetic and pharmacological modulation in iPSC-based models to study key targets and pathways of interest and contribute to drug discovery advancement.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by continuously integrating new scientific findings and methodologies into your projects.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams both within and outside the realm of Discovery Research.
  • Present findings to internal teams, publish research in peer-reviewed journals, and present work at scientific conferences.
  • Mentor and guide junior scientists and research associates, fostering a culture of growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, and controlled drug and radioactive compounds where applicable.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS or PhD in neuroscience, genetics, pharmacology, cell biology or related field, with typically 4+ (PhD), 10+ (MS), or 12+ (BS) years of experience.
  • Extensive experience in iPSC models of psychiatric disease, ranging from iPSC culture to differentiation and establishment of quantitative readouts.
  • High proficiency across a range of experimental techniques, including but not limited to standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, high content imaging, neuronal activity, genetic and/or pharmacological target modulation.
  • Ability to independently plan experiments, troubleshoot, and interpret data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a knack for collaborating with team members with a broad range of experiences.
  • Experience in genomic engineering, neuronal differentiation protocols, or working with patient-derived lines is a plus.
  • Previous industry experience is a plus, preferably within psychiatry research.
  • Curious and creative, with the ability to think outside the box, take risks, and solve complex challenges.
