Job Title: Senior Scientist – Culture Media
Location: Oxford
Salary: Competitive / DOE + benefits
We’re seeking an experienced Culture Media Scientist to join a long-standing client, making a positive global impact by creating sustainable cellular agriculture technologies. The main focus of this role is to develop culture medium formulations using high-throughput technology towards animal component free, low cost, large-scale & reproducible manufacture of cultivated meat. You will work closely with the other R&D teams to optimise protocols & deliver our company-wide milestones.
Experience:
- A PhD in a relevant area of Biological Sciences or related field & 3+ years’ post-graduation experience
- In-depth experience in cell culture: isolation, maintenance & differentiation of stem or primary cell types
- Expertise in cellular & molecular biology assays such as enzyme-based metabolism assays, protein quantification, ICH & PCR.
- Proven experience in the development of cell-based processes, including in-depth expertise in cultured cell biochemistry, metabolism & culture medium development
- Proficient in the detailed analysis & presentation of complex data sets. Mathematically literate.
- Familiarity with the development & implementation of automation to support high-throughput media development
Responsibilities:
- Design, plan, & perform R&D Culture Medium activities
- Contribute to the delivery of R&D milestones with the Culture Medium team
- Provide guidance & coaching to support the growth of the Culture medium team
- Determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses, & identify suitable alternatives if technical problems arise
- Document research findings clearly in an electronic lab book
- Select, follow, & further develop experimental protocols & generate laboratory SOPs
- Support the preparation of laboratory risk assessments & maintenance of health & safety protocols
- Provide written & verbal progress reports to the Senior Leadership Team & to external collaborators
- Keep up to date with field developments & apply these to improve experimental design & assay performance
