Serina Therapeutics is seeking a PhD-level Senior Research and Development Chemist to join our dynamic Chemistry team. This full-time position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced chemist eager to make an impact in the field of pharmaceutical development. This role will report to Senior Vice President, CMC & Formulation in the Chemistry department. Position is on-site full-time based in Huntsville, AL.

The Senior Research and Development Chemist will lead and execute advanced research initiatives to develop innovative synthetic and polymer chemistry. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in organic chemistry, route scouting, ensure compliance with industry standards, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive product development.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Conduct novel organic and polymer chemistries to support and build the companys proprietary polymer platform and pipeline.
  2. Develop scaleable synthetic processes that could eventually lead to commercialization.
  3. Characterize, solve problems and interpret analytical data obtained from instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, MALDI, and NMR.
  4. Maintain chemistry laboratory and inventories in accordance with good laboratory procedures.
  5. Partner with management on research findings and propose suggestions for next steps.
  6. Maintains a current knowledge of latest technology and scientific trends.
  7. Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders, addressing technical challenges and ensuring timely delivery of materials.
  8. Prepare, analyze, and report on key research and development metrics, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  9. Develop, implement, and maintain systems, procedures, and protocols to ensure adherence to safety and regulatory guidelines.
  10. Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring all research and development practices comply with statutory and industry requirements.
  11. Address and resolve escalated technical issues from both internal and external sources.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  1. A minimum of a Ph.D. in Organic or Polymer Chemistry from an accredited University.
  2. A minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral experience in academia or industry. Experience in a GMP environment is a plus.
  3. Must have proven track record of scientific accomplishments either in the form of publications or patents.
  4. Knowledge of use of PC software such as Microsoft Excel and Word; and ChemDraw is strongly desired.
  5. Advanced analytical knowledge by having used instruments like the NMR, GC and HPLC.
  6. Must have excellent communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to participate in a team environment. Experience in writing scientific documents is important.
  7. Physical Requirements: Performance of tasks essential to the job function may require the employee to work directly with, handle, or otherwise come into contact with chemicals or pharmaceutical agents. Employees must be able to wear respiratory protection (filtering face piece, face, full-face or powered air purifying respirator, supplied air or self-contained breathing apparatus) for certain tasks essential to the job function.
  8. Some travel, up to 10%, to manufacturing sites is expected.
  9. Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
  10. Proficiency in laboratory equipment and software relevant to R&D processes.
  11. Detail-oriented with an ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Compensation

Compensation for this role will be competitive and commensurate with experience. In addition to a base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
