Position Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive risk management program that strives to exceed regulatory compliance requirements across multiple locations, including fabrication and maintenance. This role will ensure that Plug Power complies with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including, but not limited to, occupational safety and health, waste management, environmental regulatory compliance, workers' compensation, chemical control, industrial hygiene, fire safety, and transportation regulations. The individual in this role will also contribute to efforts to build a strong safety culture and implement proactive measures to continually improve Plug's EHS program. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual who can work independently and is comfortable with multitasking in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position requires a high level of interaction with all functions throughout the organization. To support your assigned locations, you will be required to travel 25% to 50% of the time.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop and implement EHS Programs based on the Corporate EHS Management System, including creating policies, procedures, and training programs tailored to welding, cutting, grinding, etc operations and service locations.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure Plug maintains compliance with relevant EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT) at the locations for which this role is responsible.
• Safety Culture: Demonstrate, model, and follow the Plug Power Behavior Change Coaching culture process and requirements with all leaders and employees.
• Risk Assessments: Conduct comprehensive site risk assessments to identify and evaluate potential hazards, including those specific to hydrogen (e.g., flammability, high pressure, welding, cutting, cranes, etc), and implement effective mitigation strategies. In addition, perform full hazard and PPE assessments.
• Incident Investigation: Lead RC incident investigations into accidents and near-misses, identify root causes, contributing factors and recommend corrective actions.
• Training: Develop and deliver EHS training programs for all employees, including Weekly Safety Huddles, Workday EHS training requirements and ensure you are experienced and /or qualified to conduct various trainings.
• Auditing: Lead the EHS Annual Facility/Location auditing group by conducting regular EHS audits and inspections to ensure compliance.
• Reporting: Manage EHS reporting, including incident reporting, regulatory compliance reporting, and environmental impact assessments.
• Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans, including procedures for hydrogen spills, fires, and evacuations.
• Environmental Management: Manage waste disposal programs, emissions reporting, and spill prevention plans, while ensuring all required permits are active and up to date.
• Sustainability: Promote sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with waste management protocols.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety or related field of study
Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience in EHS compliance within a manufacturing environment
Prior experience as a technical trainer/instructor is highly
Professional EHS certifications, including Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and/or other related safety certifications, are strongly
Able to interpret regulations and implement requirements in the work environment
Knowledge and broad technical background with federal and state regulations (OSHA, RCRA, DOT, DEC)
Ability to analyze information, develop and deliver training programs, adapt policies, create reporting, and have proven progressive experience to offer recommendations for continuous improvement
Proven skill set with a variety of computer and software programs, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, and others.
An ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences and stakeholders while responding to questions from groups of managers, employees, and the leadership team
Proven leadership, teamwork, and flexibility to manage changes in projects and priorities
Ability to write reports and procedural manuals
Exceptional public speaking skills
Superior communication skills
Ability to manage complex projects and multitask effectively

Pay Rate:
$96,800.00 - $154,900.00
